Mercury. Not exactly the most entertaining of planets, but certainly one of the most peaceful. With the atmospheric generator setting up a heat and pressure field around where he sat outside the TARDIS, it was actually quite nice.

He had two white wicker chairs and a table set up outside the TARDIS, with a pot of tea and two cups and saucers out.

After all, he had a date arriving.

Well, not really a date.

Just Romana.

Still! No reason not to put a little effort out!

Propping herself up by her elbow, fingers curling into a loose grip against the side of her head, Romana just smiled at him still, albeit a little sleepy on her part.

"And it's always late somewhere else," came the instant reply. She really could not help the need to get in the last word some times.

"Yes, but it's not really all that late in another place," he countered. His smirk widened.

"And yet in that other place that is not too far off, it has jumped from being late to have completely forgotten what the time really was to begin with," she pointed out with a grin.

"Very true. Which means you're so late by now, Romana, there's no real point in going just yet."

He leaned up and pressed a kiss to the side of her mouth.

All she could do was roll her eyes in response before stealing a quick kiss to settle their little banter.

"One thing always leads to another with you, doesn't it?"

From: [identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com

"It's a chain reaction, Romana. Can't deny that's the way that the universe moves."

Was he smug? Oh, just a little bit. He felt like he won that mini-banter.

From: [identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com

Well, she could give him the benefit of winning it. Oh, she had a retort in mind, but preferred to let him be smug for a bit. Later on she'll come up with something to bring the score to her favor.

Settling on running her fingers through his ruffled hair she pressed another short kiss to his lips. "Well, either way, it would seem that you have me around for a little while longer."

"Good. I was only just getting used to you lying here with me."

Which wasn't true, actually. He was fairly certain he was used to her presence the moment she was there. Which was terrifying, also.

He tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear.

Lying there beside him, it was any wonder how she had left him and Adric behind all those years ago at the Gate. With the complications that was her life now Romana could only dream of this sort of calm.

"Didn't you mention something earlier about ice-skating?" She asked. Not that she wouldn't mind spending more time until then just remaining where she was.

"Oh, absolutely," the Doctor replied with an emphatic nod. "And Christmas! Been too long since I've had a Christmas, and you have yet to have one. Wonder if there's somewhere I could have a proper turkey dinner ordered from..."

But he was one who liked to experience everything about a holiday at once. Which made Halloween a very painful holiday when he decided to try every candy he trick-or-treated at once.

The fascination with human holidays was amusing for her. The Doctor held such high regards for the species, always eager to learn more about them and even get involved with their day to day lives. Just listening to him talk like this brought another smile to her lips.

"Well then," Romana began as she eased herself up to sitting on the bed, holding the bed sheet over her body, "Since I seem to be quite late as it is shouldn't we be preparing to go?"

Again with the teases.

"But if you're late enough," he wrapped his arms around her middle and pulled her back down. "Doesn't that make you early? Isn't that how it works? I was always good at thermodynamics, not really circular time logic."

From: [identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com

"And yet if I am early, would that not allow us more time to spend together?" she tried once more to sit up, though this time was unsuccessful what with being trapped in his embrace. "Unless you would rather we stay here..."

From: [identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com

Part of him would. Part of him wanted to abuse time and just have her stay here as long as he could. But, that would take away from the other things he wanted to do and...oh, but he would've loved more time. He always wanted more time.

"Ohhhh, all right." He released her and sighed. "Venus, dancing, and Christmas. Not a bad date, I'd say."

Unable to resist, Romana brought her lips just close enough as if to kiss him again. A grin forming, lips brushing against his, she said teasingly, "Mercury, Doctor."

And there it was - the little moment to even the score.

His lips parted to accept a kiss that didn't seem to be coming. Wait, what did she say?

Mercury?

His jaw dropped slightly, but only for an instant.

"No, I knew that, I was...just checking to make sure you did!"

From: [identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com

His expression was priceless as always.

There was definitely no helping the giggle on her part - something that she had done when she was much younger! Again, she could blame it on him for bringing this side of her out.

"Of course you were," she eased his confusion with the promised kiss.

This regular kissing, he liked it. He liked it an awful lot. He smiled against her lips.

"I was." He replied, with possibly a little pout to his voice. But only a little one.

He pulled away and fumbled for his trousers. Ah, the fun part of simply throwing them aside.

She was still holding the sheet to her chest when she leaned over the bed's edge. Reaching for her own discarded clothing Romana managed to grab them before sitting back up.

Without even looking at a mirror she had a feeling that her hair was going to need a good brushing. Fluffing it a bit before patting at it, "Now I'm wondering if I should have waited on that shower."

He buttoned up his shirt and draped his tie over his shoulders.

"I'm a little wrinkled myself," he admitted. "Still, sometimes, you know, with spontaneity, got to be a little wrinkled."

He hopped off the bed and all but bounced around, collecting socks and shoes and jacket.

Her fingers fumbled a bit with the hooks with the brassiere.

"Be that as it may, some of us do prefer to be a bit less wrinkled."

The t-shirt was pulled over her head and her hair pulled out from being caught in the collar. Easing herself off the bed she was able to finish dressing without the hopping about.

One he tied his last shoe, he offered a hand to Romana.

"Are you all right?" he asked. About several things. He knew she was certain at the time, but he couldn't help but worry. He cared.

Once she had tucked the necklace safely under her shirt did Romana accept the Doctor's hand.

"I am perfectly fine," Romana replied, squeezing his hand once with a reassuring smile on her lips. "Really, I am."

From: [identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com

"Ready for Christmas and turkey, then? Mistletoe and ice skating? I wouldn't give you half a Christmas, you know."

He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her lips. Lovers, now. Funny, besides the new intimacy, their relationship didn't feel very different yet. Maybe they had always been that way on some, non-sexual level before.

From: [identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com

Perhaps now she would come to learn what exactly that made this sort of holiday appealing to the Doctor. Oh, she had certainly read a bit about it when first learning about humans. But then again being the studious she was Romana had much too much to learn during her Academy years to dwell on such simple notions such as Christmas.

"Well, I would hope not," she answered just before she felt his lips against her own. The kissing, it was something she found to be a little simple pleasure. She would miss this upon her return home.
