Mercury. Not exactly the most entertaining of planets, but certainly one of the most peaceful. With the atmospheric generator setting up a heat and pressure field around where he sat outside the TARDIS, it was actually quite nice.
He had two white wicker chairs and a table set up outside the TARDIS, with a pot of tea and two cups and saucers out.
After all, he had a date arriving.
Well, not really a date.
Just Romana.
Still! No reason not to put a little effort out!

Shrugging her arms into a light knee-length jacket she plucked from the console Romana was moving around the controls for the door. Whether it was luck or not, she had parked close enough so that as pulled open the doors the warm air from the atmospheric generator brushed against her cheek.
Immediately her gaze looked up to the sky. An image near identical to the invitation she had received from The Doctor.

Still. No reason to be upset. Or think about it. Or feel guilty. Certainly no reason to think about telling her not to go back to Gallifrey and really what would it hurt---
"Well, there you are." He hopped out of his seat and took a few steps towards her. "Looking beautiful as always." A pause. "You know, probably."

"And here you are with a new body." The old habit of a tease was difficult to drop. "Last I saw of you, you were dressed in green velvet with a fondness for shoes."

He lost that pretty incarnation in the Time War. A lot was...but no, no, no, he wouldn't let himself fall into that sort of guilt. Not when he finally got to see her again.
"And I still have a fondness for shoes!" He lifted up his red trainers, a bit dusty in the Mercury soil. He hopped towards her. "Converses!"

Her own shoes were a tad more practical than the heels she used to wear in her first incarnation. They were heeled boots, but still boots and more effective for running.
The warm air encouraged her to remove the jacket she only moments early pulled on and drape it over her arm. Breathing in the air she could not help but smile even more at the peace. Looking up at him again she asked, "How have you been, Doctor? Much must have happened if its been two regenerations since we last parted ways."

"Well, you know. Saving the universe. Bounding around in the TARDIS, same old life. Even got a new desktop theme for the TARDIS. Coral. I like it. The other me, fifth me, he doesn't. I think he's being picky. Fortunately one mellows with age."
But where were his manners? He took a few steps back and offered her a chair.

There was no helping the delicate arch of her left brow even as she accepted the offered seat. With the jacket over the back of the chair, she eased herself into the seat.
"Your fifth? My goodness, I can only imagine how much strain it must have been on the time lines to maintain such a mind boggling collision." Relaxing in the chair, crossing one leg over the other and helps clasped over her lap, "Not to mention there had to have been a bit of a headache conversing with yourself." Even with her expression a tad serious and skeptical there was no mistaking the humor in her eyes.

He took a sip of his tea and looked over to her TARDIS. He could feel his TARDIS in his mind, reveling in the sight of another of its species. It, like himself, felt lonely. Often.
"And, really, you should think about tinkering with it anyway. Council...well, they won't have to know if you do a few changes, will they?"

A TARDIS that only the president had permission to operate, over years Romana had felt a deep connection with it. The one place she could call her sanctuary during the troubling times back home whenever the arguments and corruption were too much for her to handle.
"These days they seem to be monitoring my every move - countless number of times my judgment has been questioned, threats of impeachment tossed carelessly around." With a heavy sigh there was a clink of the cup resting upon the saucer. "It's any wonder I haven't lost my mind yet."

The words blurted out before he had a chance to think of the implications of such a thing. The President of Gallifrey on holiday.
"You know. Could take a day trip off somewhere. Take you dancing. Don't think I ever took you dancing in our travels, did I?"
Now it just got worse. Not merely a holiday, but a holiday with him, from her future.

Now there was an offer she was more than tempted to accept.
Gazing at her own rippled reflection in her cup, the idea was considered. To be whisked away from the responsibilities and duties that came with the Presidency and relive the old days. Just remembering those years was enough to make her smile, albeit sadly.
"Doctor, as much I would enjoy it... you know very well I cannot abandon Gallifrey. Even if there are those who are more than willing to forsake and overthrow me."

"I do have a time machine, you know. Be back before they can miss you."

"Why is it that I have strongest suspicion that you will continue to ask until I agree to?"

"And I'm persistent. One of my better qualities."

She fell silent for a moment when she took another sip. Granted he did have a point, but there was still that nagging, foreboding feeling in the back of her mind. When her cup was drained a soft sigh was heard.
Her nerves were strained from the countless arguments with the council. And to take a break from it would help to clear her thoughts and re-evaluate the problems back home with the resistances, among other matters, Romana finally met his gaze again.
"Just one trip."

"Right, no, just one! That's fine! Just one. Wouldn't try to cause an issue or disrupt anything. Promise."
The back of his mind reminded him of what a bad idea this was. He traveled alone for a reason. He never met up with anyone of his own kind for a reason. And what if he said something to give Romana an inkling of the Time War?
Nah, he'd just be really careful. Besides, it would be fun!

"You cause them without even trying!" Which she was absolutely prepared to defend her said statement with a number of examples. The trip to Ribos alone was enough to satisfy her side of the debate, should it come to be.
Empty cup in hand she tilted it a fraction before setting aside, reaching for the teapot to pour herself a second.
"Should I ask where we would go? Or are you going to surprise me?"
From:

Where to go? Well, if they were going to go dancing, there were a lot of options, each one depended on how extravagant he wanted the experience to be.
"You'll see," he decided, showing off his near-perfected mysterious smile.

She did!
He twitched his nose and leaned forward.
"Do not."

She held the cup in her right hand, fingertips gripping the rim as she leaned forward too, folding her arms over her lap.
"Do too."

Resting her chin in the palm of her hand as she drawled, "You walked right into the tachyon regeneration generator on Argolis and ended up strolling out as an old man when it malfunctioned."

Not that he didn't base his seventh self a little bit on the twelfth king of Sararoria. Just a bit.

With a gentle swirl she twirled the contents of her drink just a bit before continuing seeing as it was her turn to defend herself.
"it was not a matter of being vain at all - I simply thought that it looked good on her and that it would be a comfortable regeneration to take up. And really now, it isn't that bad of a choice. Certainly you don't have any complaints about my appearance, now do you?"
