Mercury. Not exactly the most entertaining of planets, but certainly one of the most peaceful. With the atmospheric generator setting up a heat and pressure field around where he sat outside the TARDIS, it was actually quite nice.
He had two white wicker chairs and a table set up outside the TARDIS, with a pot of tea and two cups and saucers out.
After all, he had a date arriving.
Well, not really a date.
Just Romana.
Still! No reason not to put a little effort out!

He was so very bad at following the Laws of Time. He wondered, often, why Romana put up with him.
From:

But she wasn't one to complain especially since she was enjoying herself.

The dance slowed to a stop, and then switched to something jazzy.
"Can I get you a drink?"
From:
no subject
She was a just a bit parched when she thought about it.
Nodding her head just once, "I believe you can." And then after a beat, "Thank you."

He thought about talking about the time she should have off, and why it was better for her health and all that...but if he pushed it further, she'd say 'no' to even going to France. He wouldn't push it.
"The best sort of dates are the ones that are improvised," he said, handing her a glass with a red, fruity concoction in it.

But of course Romana could not help the teasing smile over the glass when she replied, "Then again, whenever I have spent time with you, everything would be rather spontaneous and improvised." With a quiet sip of her drink, her free hand pointed her index finger at him in mock accusation. "Your plans always did go array."
An innocent banter, that was all!
From:
no subject
Actually, he couldn't really think of that one time, but if he were lucky, Romana wouldn't remember what time was that one time, either!

How could she not roll her eyes at him? Well, at least she didn't this time around. Instead she only smiled as if she knew a secret that she would never tell and sipped her drink.
"Whatever you say, Doctor."
Oh, how she was laughing on the inside, really.
From:

"Still. So much more interesting when you go where you don't expect. You can't deny that."
He loved this banter. He'd never admit it, but he did. So much.
From:
no subject
"I never said I was denying it," Romana stated. "As a matter of fact, you do have this habit of making assumptions on my behalf."
From:
no subject
With a wide, mischievous grin, he said. "Like...I can assume that you prefer traveling with me to the dull life back on Gallifrey, am I right?"
From:
no subject
"Mm... I suppose so..." Not one to let another get the best of her the Time Lord only diverted her gaze away to look out on the dance floor instead of him.
From:
no subject
He liked how she looked away. That meant he was right. He liked knowing he was right.
"Still. That, versus the unpredictability of the stars?"
From:

The lights from the dance floor reflected off the half-empty glass held in her hand as she leaned back against the bar. Both elbows propped on the counter, it was rather surprising even for herself as to how relaxed she really was. This sort of behavior she certainly would not allow herself to do back home. But then again she was not under the constant watch of the High Council here.
"But... yes, it does not compare to what the vastness of time and space can offer." The constant temptation, she believed.

He found himself reaching out to touch her again. Her arm, and only barely grazing it with his fingertips.
"Well, you have all the time you want, Romana. Always was my motto."
From:
no subject
"And it always will," she agreed.
From:

It wasn't fair that this was it. This brief date with Romana was going to be the last he ever saw of her. It was even less fair that he knew it. It tainted the experience with irony and sadness. It added a desperation that shouldn't have been there.
He leaned forward and kissed her again against the side of her mouth. Time was brief, hesitating wouldn't fix anything, as he used to always believe it would.
From:

With him.
No, it wasn't fair at all, but then again she would never admit this to anyone - not even the Doctor. Neither her pride or her sense of responsibility would allow these words to be spoken.
Which was why instead of words, her head tilted to the side enough to press her lips fully to his. What could not be spoken could be expressed in the most intimate of actions. So few had ever understood her for who she really was. It seemed so silly that a man who was once both her intellectual rival and mentor would be one of them.

His hand slid up to cup the side of her face as he deepened the kiss. Still. Kissing Romana. If he told his fourth self that he'd be in this situation---well, he probably wouldn't be terribly surprised, but he'd probably be surprised that it happened so quickly. Things like expressions of adoration took time and why was his mind still buzzing at full tilt?

The music, the atmosphere of the dance floor - never before had she felt so alive. Not since their past adventures when they were running hand in hand through the streets of Paris, trying to find their way through the maze of the Nimon. All of the thrills of traveling always came back to tease her when she was with him. Romana nipped his lower lip suddenly, playfully, unable to resist the habit of competition.
From:
no subject
With the same sort of competitive spirit, he took advantage of his thumb's closeness to her earlobe and stroked it very gently. He had no idea if that was a heavy nerve center for Romana, but he didn't imagine the sensation would be unpleasant.
What good was all the kissing doing? Expressing what he was pretty certain he'd felt for her since around their first time meeting? Then what?
From:
no subject
Seeing as it was her move again this female Time Lord parted her lips just slightly to deepen this kiss even further, silently grateful for their lungs could hold much more air than any of the other typical aliens. Fingers threaded in his hair while the other hand slide down and taking hold of the lapel of his tuxedo.
It wasn't wise to allow herself to be swept away like this. Goodness knows how many times Braxiatel had scolded her for her lack of common sense. --But sense be damned, she was enjoying it all.
From:
no subject
Well, that part of him that got swept away managed to forget that he was still holding his drink in one hand and when it fell it managed to get all over his tuxedo and Romana's dress.
He broke away from her quickly. Dammit!
"I'm sorry!"
From:

"Clumsy as usual," was all she said when she turned her back to him to find napkins of any sort. She manage to grab a handful and hand a few over to him before trying to mop up what she could from her clothing.
"... Red is usually my color."
