The Doctor flipped a few final switches on the TARDIS console, adding the information he'd just recieved about Aislinn into the systems, should he ever run across another muse like her again. Well, he doubted it would be exactly like her, but...the same genus at least.

He turned, picking up the teacups that were left behind. Funny, he would've thought Rose would've been back by now. The sound of a familiar key in the lock made him look up. Speak of the devil...

Reinette stilled, studying the Lord Byron with new intensity. Was he like the Doctor? Did the stars listen to him as well? Her head dipped slightly, considering. When she finally answered, Reinette's voice was low, but direct.

"Yes. I would believe such things."

When you have already seen, believing becomes s simple thing indeed. Moving closer, Reinette posistioned herself next to his free arm, and linked her own within Byron's. It was a forward thing to do, but had she ever been anything else? Truthfully, forward was a kind word. She guided them towards one of the galleries, and away from ears that had nothing to do but listen to conversations that were not theres.

Then, after a while.

"How do I know you?"

Byron was taken aback at the touch, the belief, Doctor or not. He walked next to her quietly, nodding to those they passed until they reached the gallery.

"Some sort of portal in time or fluke allowed us to communicate via messages." He smiled slightly, trying to explain. "It was...intriguing. I promised you..well. Here I am, though I suppose it means very little to you at this point."

"Time," Reinette repeated, her steady, practiced footsteps completely stilled as she considered the word. Then all of its meanings.

Practiced composure returned as she began walking again, arm still linked withing Byron's. "Surely a promise kept but always be honored as such, no matter when it was orriginally made? So many hold their words so cheaply, and abuse them until they are meaningless, both themselves, and the words."

He gave her a look that gave nothing away. "I could be mad, you know. It's possible I'm making it all up, even the promise. I've been accused of insanity on more than one occasion. Why would you believe me?"

Reinette simply shook her head.

"I have found that the most interesting and amazing things in life are almost always true. We just comfort ourselves into believing they might not be. Too many people are weak minded, with no intent on improving upon what is so lacking."

It was a pretty speeach, one she might give to almost anyone. But, by his own word, Byron had traveled a long way. And in that he deserved more.

"I don't have to merely believe in the interesting, and amazing. I have known them. Seen them for myself. To not believe you now would mean I could not believe in the before."

"Yes, I..." He knew. He'd surmised more. It wasn't what he wished to consider, truly.

"I appreciate the benefit of the doubt, then, Madame. It is more than I likely deserve to just come upon you thus."

Reinette paused before a painting, a pastoral scene grand in the undertaking, if only for the size of the canvas.

"The world pocesses so much doubt already," she offered directly. "I find that belief is a much more powerful option. And an often unique one as well."

He smiled a little at the sentiment. "Very unique. And refreshing."

They continued walking the length of the gallery, countlessworks of art passing by unoticed.

"We have established that we know each other," Reinette offered directly. "Now the question must be asked. Why did you come?"

He actually flushed a little, and avoided the direct answer. "I promised I would. So that we could further our acquaintance."

It was true enough.

Reinette smiled, pausing in the trip through the hallway to study Lord Byron once more.

"What was it like, then? Our acquaintance?"

Byron returned the smile with a bit more warmth than was necessarily proper.

"Challenging. We discussed the delights to be found in thorough exploration of new territory."

"Ah yes," Reinette met his smile, hers practiced to a precise degree. "The avoidance of boredom. I would have enjoyed such a conversation."

"You certainly seemed to," he said witha slight smile.

Reinette could not help but be curious about her future self.

"What else did I seem to you?"

He smiled, the easy words falling from his lips. "Beautiful. Charming. Talented." Which were all true, but the deeper honesty slid out. "Lonely. Wistful."

"Well then, that does not sound so different," she conceeded. "And you, my lord, have a gift with words."

He smiled at that, giving her a half-bow. "It is my calling."

Reinette laughed at that. He was seemingly aware of all the suctoms of court, and yet he attacked them with just enough flippancy to be found intriguing.

"Is that so? You must tell me more of yourself."

"What would you like to know, Madame? My life is an open book for your perusal."

He gave her a light-hearted grin, but his eyes were serious.

"A book, then?" It was an appropriate enough idea, especially for a man of words. "And how many pages are there, in your book?"

"Hundreds," he said, and there was a flicker of something akin to sadness in his eyes for a minute. "More tales than even I've fully numbered. Some I've forgotten. Perhaps some I never will."

Reinette watched him intently, trying to understand. "Have you somehow forgotten more than you actually remember?"

The concept intrigued, as much as it saddened.

"Not that much, I don't think. More that there are those I wish I could forget."

He brought her hand to his lips, brushing a kiss over. "But not this moment. Not this day."

Reinette actually laughed, though not so much so that she covered up her pleasure at his honest answer. It was so rare within these walls.

"I find myself enjoying it as well."
