The Doctor flipped a few final switches on the TARDIS console, adding the information he'd just recieved about Aislinn into the systems, should he ever run across another muse like her again. Well, he doubted it would be exactly like her, but...the same genus at least.

He turned, picking up the teacups that were left behind. Funny, he would've thought Rose would've been back by now. The sound of a familiar key in the lock made him look up. Speak of the devil...

His smile held a trace of bitterness. "Words others say rarely paint the whole, or true, picture."

Reinette considered that.

"And what of you? You do not seem to include yourself with these 'others'. Are your words different?

Byron tucked her hand more firmly in his arm. "I abhor gossip and find it far more freeing to speak the truth than lie." He flashed her a slightly wicked grin. "Of course, few want to hear the truth, and I don't promise to not dress it up in flowery phrases."

"I believe sir," Reinette laughed again. "That you may be one of those few with the rare skill of mocking someone, and leaving them completely unaware ot it. Unless you wish them to know, and you dispatch that with just as much skill."

"It is a gift I have honed to a sharpened edge." He gave her a half bow.

She could not help but meet his action with a curtsey, deep, and finished. For Reinette was never one to do by half.

"Then you must consider me impressed."

He arched an eyebrow, then smiled. "I shall only dream to hope that is true."

"It is," she assured him. "I am not one to lie either."

"I appreciate that trait in another person."

"Then we are well matched," Reinette finished, smiling broadly. "Tell me about your journey here. Was it interesting?"

"It was unlike anything I have ever experienced in fashion, and the company intriguing in conversation. I'm afraid I don't know exactly how it was accomplished. A device from another world made it possible."

Reinette leaned in closer to Byron, wondering momentarily if it was possible that he ticked. It did not seem so, and satisfied, she straightened. One could never be too careful with such things.

"And of all the places you could go, you came here."

It was a statement, not a question, because the result was quite obvious to her eyes.

He shrugged a little and gave her a smile that was charming, though with just a hint of the despair that had been plaguing him since...for as long as he could remember.

"Where else would I have gone?"

"Everywhere," she offered. "Anywhere. It was all there for you to choose from, if this machine works as you say it does."

"But this is where I wished to be," he said simply.

Reinette smiled at the newest stranger to enter her life again, having thr strangest urge to introduce him to Voltaire and the rest of the artists that she filled her days with.

"Then, again, I must be flattered."

Byron grinned at her, a flash of the young man he'd been once taking over the cynicism of age in his eyes.

"I am pleased you find it flattering instead of pretentious."

Reinette tilted her head. "That would mean complicating emtotions more than they are. And I find that like is complicated more than enough, in its current state. Especially here."

"Anywhere, more like. It's no simpler elsewhere." Nothing was simple, not emotions, not thoughts, not experience or explanation.

Reinette openly considered such things, specific experince supporting his point.

"No," she agreed softly. "It is not."

He moved to cover the hand on his arm with his other, not caring if it was familiar. The conversation had moved beyond that.

"But some things we can try and simplify, at least. That much is within our power."

"You sound extremely decisive," she observed, continung their walk back up the gallery. "What would you like to simplify then?"

"About some things..."

He glanced at her with a slight smile. "If I could simplify my reasons for being here, I think it would be helpful for all involved."

"You speak of such an event as if the outcome is not possible," Reinette observed, watching how his words were reflected on his features. "Just who all is involved, that you wish to help them?"

"Myself. My...companions on this venture. You, even. A strange man shows up from across time merely to speak to you. You must want to know why."
