You have picked up a distress signal, and followed it to a hotel in London. All you are able to determine is that it is coming from someplace inside the hotel, and is not terrestrial in origin. What will you do? What will you find at the other end of the signal?
"But I've found a...oh, nevermind."
The receptionist was exceptionally unhelpful, so the Doctor darted down the hallways of the hotel, knocking on doors. One of them would be the person who sent the distress signal.
OOC: Open to all. Any universe, any time. If you want to have your pup be in this hotel and answer the door, just go for it! I won't be up toooooooo much later this evening, but I won't leave anybody hanging, I'll catch you asap tomorrow afternoon!

And then the door opened to reveal a woman in a bathrobe with a cup of coffee.
"Oh! Hello." Um...um...
"You don't happen to have a distress-signal emanating object in there, do you?"

And how would this man know anyway?
"Not that I'm aware of," she replied, casting a quick glance down at his shoes then back up again. "Have you lost one? Or are you the hotel's security?"

He pulled out his psychic paper and held it up.
"Hotel Director John Smith, checking to make sure there aren't any types of equipment within the premises that might possibly trigger a reaction to the simple electronic work we're doing along the corridors."
Of which there was none, but that was completely beside the point.
"If you do have anything, I'll just need to examine it for one moment, make sure it won't foul up any equipment, Miss...?"

And she really didn't know what it was John had in the bedroom, but found it a little too coincidental that a strange man claiming to be hotel security was suddenly knocking on their door.

He tried on the charmer front. He grinned widely.
"Won't take but a mo'. Mind if I look 'round? Promise I won't keep you."
OOC: I'm so sorry. RL has been a kick in the pants lately.

Con artist? Definitely not carrying, and almost assuredly nothing to do with hotel staff. One way to find out, and not be seen doing so, was give him what he wanted. She undid the chain and stepped back, opening the door and letting him in. "What if I decide to keep you thought?" she asked lightly as he stepped inside. The door was closed before he'd had time to turn around. She was leaning against the door smiling innocently, obviously teasing.

"Oh, I imagine I'll be all right," he said. Though, really, he couldn't imagine why she'd keep him. Questions about the hotel, maybe.

"So, Mr Smith, anything untoward? Anything that might interfere with your electronics and upset your alarms?"

It pointed in the direction of the bedroom. Well, wasn't that interesting?
"Mind if I have a look in here?"
From:

"I don't, but John might. Shall I check and see if he's dressed?" she asked, looking down at her own bathrobe then back at him.
From:

"Oh! I haven't had a look at the register, didn't realize you weren't alone. That would be good, just want to make sure everything's secure."

He couldn't, for the life of him, figure out why. To the Doctor, there was nothing in the corner at all. He reached out his hand, and it connected with something metallic. A cloaking device, perhaps? Something against non-main-timestream occupants? He wondered if the woman he'd been speaking with could see it.

"Is he, now?" he raised an eyebrow. "I think I've found what's causing the disturbances." Back into pseudo-professional mode. "Right! Just need to get this moved out of the area."
Which would be difficult as he couldn't see it. However, if she could see it, she might say something.

"No."

She was already more than a little concerned about John's absence, but this man's detection of the thing, and strange behaviour was just as worrying. "So why don't you tell me who you really are, and what you really want," asked him quietly. If he was UAC they had some rather unorthodox ways of searching out their target.

He straightened. "I'm the Doctor. And I want to take this object and disable it before it fries the central mainframe of my ship. Well, it's more like poach. All the same."
From:

"What is it?" she said, indicating it with a jerk of her head. "What's it do? And what ship?"
From:
no subject
"My ship. The one you're going to destroy if you don't let me turn this off!"

Men!!
"Do you know how to turn it off?" she asked, looking from the stranger to the machine and wondering why it looked so ... faint.
ooc: Sorry, didn't get a notif on this! Or it got et somewhere, and is now in a timey-wimey grintlesprig's tummy. Or.. not.
