• THE DOCTOR LEARNS THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS •
~•~
Christmas Eve. 2009.

But! Through all his travels in space and time, he still hadn't quite figured out what Christmas was for exactly. Except as a yearly excuse for turkey, too much wine, and plum pudding (all of which the Doctor approved of). This year, though, as he strode the streets on this wonderful Christmas Eve, the Doctor decided he would figure out exactly what Christmas was all about.
This may or may not have included use of a intergalactic manipulative detector and a full pack of radio stellar isotopian crystals. Oh, and a cup of hot chocolate. In a festively-coloured cup.
There was a lovely light snow, and the Doctor grinned madly at the stars. Christmas. This year, he was going to figure out what it was all about.

He soniced open another door. A large blast of psychic energy hit him as he opened it. He winced and rubbed his head. "Blimey, can't you feel that?"
From:

But when that door opened, she barely felt a thing. "Feel what?" she asked, giving him a concerned look. "What's wrong, Doctor?"

He kept hold of Donna's hand, but walked a little slower as he stepped through the door.
"If something goes wrong," he said. "You need to get up there, toss a fire alarm, and get back to the TARDIS."

There wasn't time to argue, of course. And Donna was just difficult enough to make sure she'd get her own way.
He sighed, but opened the next door. The psychic energy dissipated as he stepped through.
"Wait." He turned back around. "Why put a door there, if there's nothing but a hallway?"
From:
no subject
"Fire door, perhaps?" she added with a shrug. "There's another down the hall a ways. Why, are you feeling okay now?"
From:
no subject
"Maybe," the Doctor said with a nod. "But yeah, a bit better."
He stepped back through the door and put a hand to his head. The throbbing was especially loud here. He reached out a hand to touch the wall.
"The psychic energy dissipates once we walk out the door, which could mean---" His fingertips went through the wall, like an opening was there, but cloaked.

...Or perhaps whatever was sending out that energy was using the fake wall to hide. "Where's that map you grabbed earlier?" she asked suddenly, wanting to know if there was a specific room the alien was in. "And why is the energy just in this area? Does it feel menacing or anything?"
From:

He shone the sonic out, like a torch, but the light seemed to get absorbed by the darkness in the room, making it go dimmer and dimmer.

Her brow furrowed more and more as she looked on into the darkness of the room and compared it to what should have been an assistant manager's office. "So, it's psychic and a light absorber," she whispered, folding the map up and tucking it into her pocket. Lightly, she touched his arm, more to give him an encouraging squeeze than anything. "Wouldn't happen to have an infra-red setting on that screwdriver, would you?"

"But I have got these. And any light-refracting subparticle displacer will show up on the blue side of these lenses.
He sniffed, and then grinned. "Basic light streaming."
From:
no subject
Still, she couldn't help a small smile at his antics and put on her own pair. "Light streaming eh?" She closed one eye, peering through the blue side just as the Doctor said. "So, what exactly would this displacer look like?"
From:
no subject
In the wall, where a moment earlier there'd been no door, there was suddenly a dark, twisted gap where light seemed to stream in, like water down a gutter of road.
"A fraction behind us on the light spectrum," he said. "It's why we couldn't see it."

"So the creature's through there, is it? I wonder why it's here of all days..."

He reached down to take Donna's hand.
"Let's find out, shall we?"
From:
no subject
"But I'm definitely not going to say no!" she said, smiling right back at him as she took his hand. "Have to help you figure out that meaning of Christmas still."
From:
no subject
"I'm so glad I met you, Donna Noble," he said.
And with that, he took a step through the hidden door.
From:
no subject
"You too, Spaceman," she replied softly before she followed him in.
From:
no subject
"Ah," the Doctor said. "On watch."

He tossed the device towards one dog, and the crystals to the other. The robots went for the shiny, energy-full objects immediately, and the Doctor grabbed Donna's hand.
"Quickly!"

He slammed it shut and locked it behind them.
"That'll hold those for a bit."
From:

Then another thought occurred to her. "Doctor, are you feeling any of those psychic disturbances here?"
From:
no subject
Wait.
He closed his eyes and concentrated. "It's very faint," he said. "Maybe we're standing in the eye of the storm."
