for [livejournal.com profile] faiththatfuelsu: Trip to Frioro 8.

Following this.

Frioro 8 was a lovely planet just outside of the Daystar Nebula. Highly advanced but fairly welcome to tourists, it wasn't a bad place to take Faith for her first outing. And it would be good for her, he decided. She didn't deserve to think that living without proper sleep or dinner was normal. No matter how much excitement was in her life (and he had a feeling she rivaled him in excitement), she deserved the basics.

And maybe she'd be good for him, too. After Mars, after everything that had happened, he was loathe to run off to Ood Sigma anytime soon. Maybe enjoy himself with Faith for a bit, see a few stars in the meantime, then find out just where his song ended.

"This is the TARDIS," he said to Faith, gesturing to the big, blue box. "Our method of transport."

Faith still wasn't sure about any of this, she just wasn't one to turn down a challenge or a good time, and dancing was always a good time. Plus it wasn't everyday that you could say you went to another planet, Slayer or not. Buffy had the whole death thing going for her, Faith figured she'd try and corner the market on this one just to even the score. She was curious as hell about how this whole space travel thing worked until they got to the TARDIS. If she hadn't known the Doctor at all she would have sworn he was pulling one over on her.

"It looks like a port-a-potty."

The Doctor's reply expression was nothing short of scandalized. Insult the TARDIS? Insult the TARDIS, of all things!

"This is the most advanced technology in the universe, thank you very much." He placed a loving hand on the wooden side.

"And she looks like a police box, thank you verymuch."

"Hey, just call 'em as I see 'em. And what I see looks like a port-a-potty. But police box. Sure. Whatever that is."

She's just going to keep her comments about men and their toys always being a woman to herself. Getting her ass left on some crazy planet wasn't something she was interested in should he decide to take her there and do just that.

"Yes, well, you'd do well to be polite."

He shoved the key into the lock and held the door open, revealing the much-larger-on-the-inside console room. He beamed. Nothing quite like showing off the ship. Martha always told him it was a 'man thing'.

"Neat trick. Hell of a lot bigger on the inside." Faith grinned when she stepped inside, hands firmly placed in her pockets. She might not be a kid, but she was smart enough not to touch anything. Her dead mother would be so proud... or, you know, drunk if there was going to be any realism to the thought.

"Quantum physics," the Doctor explained, beaming proudly. "She's called a TARDIS. That's T-A-R-D-I-S. Time and relative dimensions in space."

He hopped inside, tossing his coat over one of the columns as he dashed to the main console. "Capable of travel to any planet and any time period in that planet's existence. Temporal physics."

"Hope it gets good gas mileage. Damn." She didn't even want to think about the implications of what he was telling her. Except it was kind of impossible not to think about.

"Any time, huh? You ever go back and change things or is that a big no no?"

"Ooooh, I change a thing or two here, a thing or two there. Nothing major, of course. Keeping the timelines in line and all that." He grinned and set a few dials.

"I have been to a few major events, but they've always gone like history intended them." He nodded to the console. "You might want to hold on."

"Ever wanted to change something big?" She didn't know if she'd have the same kind of will he apparently did. Her curiosity would end up getting the better of her.

"To what?" Because breaking something was not on the agenda.

He glanced over the console at her again, this time with less flippancy. "More times than I should've."

He nodded to the console. "Just the side there. The coral's pretty tough. And you might want to now..."

He pulled the parking brake, sending the ship hurtling through time and space.

She did as he directed and grabbed hold of the coral just in time. Even with Slayer reflexes she nearly lost her footing, and her eyes went a bit wide in surprise.

"Thing has some wicked get up and go, Doc."

"Power of a black hole, Faith. That's about a billion times more horsepower than you're used to. Certainly a lot more fuel-efficient, too."

He grinned madly and grabbed the hand brake, pulling the ship to a sharp stop. He lost his balance and tumbled backwards onto the grating. All in a day's driving.

"Brilliant!"

"You really don't do anything in halves, do you?" She was pretty sure that if she'd been someone else, she'd have gone into a state of shock with all of this.

She was also sure she would have laughed when the Doctor went tumbling if she hadn't nearly landed on her ass again herself. "You do this how often?"

Just because she hadn't laughed, didn't mean that she wouldn't take the chance to rib him good naturedly.

"All the time!" the Doctor replied joyfully, hopping back to his feet. He pulled the monitor towards himself and grinned madly at the calculations on the screen.

"Perfect landing! Not that I don't always have a perfect landing, but---I might not always have a perfect landing." He grabbed his coat and hopped towards the doors.

"Bite to eat and a long, dreamless sleep. Sound like fun?"

OOC: Sorry for the long delay!
