for [livejournal.com profile] charloft: IC Sappiest Love Songs

Right, well, speaking from a strict beginning-of-the-21st-century line, here's a few favorites. Did my best to reach a range of dates, here, but I think I might've been stuck in the 50's for a good number of them.

The Beatles - I Wanna Hold Your Hand
Oh yeah I'll tell you something
I think you'll understand
When I say "that's something"
I wanna hold your hand...

This is really a staple of romantic love songs, I think. Nothing more romantic than holding hands, running away from danger, blowing things up...well, maybe at least the hand holding.

Frank Sinatra - Fly Me To the Moon (In Other Words)
Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars
In other words
Hold my hand...

This is the sort of love song I can't help but put on a list like this. Planetary travel and handholding all in one song? Brilliant!

Bobby Darin - Beyond the Sea
Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailing...

When you travel about as much as I do, it's...well, it's nice to think that someone might be waiting for you out there.

Julie Andrews - I Could've Danced All Night
I could've danced all night
I could've danced all night
And still have begged for more
I could've spread my wings and done a thousand things
I've never done before...

A classic, especially for French parties.

Bing Crosby - PS I Love You
Write to the Browns, just as soon as you're able
They came around to call
I burned a hole in the dining room table
And let me see...I guess that's all.
Nothing else for me to say and so I'll close, but by the way
PS: I love you...

I write a good number of letters to those I don't see anymore, and, well, I like this one. On top of that, I vaguely remember sending a holo-letter to Romana once about the dining room table...

Ella Fitzgerald - This Can't Be Love
This can't be love
Because I feel so well
No sobs, no sorrow, no sighs
This can't be love
I get no dizzy spells
My head is up in the sky...

Isn't it wonderful when it feels like this? Doesn't happen that often for me, sadly, but when it does.

Elvis Presley - Put The Blame On Me
If they say we were doing wrong
If they say we were out too long
You can say my arm was just too strong
Put the blame, put the blame on me...

You really can't have a love song list without the King on it, can you? I like this one because it's wonderfully devious, putting the blame on himself if others don't approve!

Barry Manilow - Somewhere Down The Road
Those dreams of yours are shining on distant shores
And if they're calling you away then I have no right to make you stay
But somewhere down the road our roads are gonna cross again
It doesn't really matter when...

Say enough goodbyes and this one becomes somewhat more emotional. Sappy! So, perfect.

Elton John - Your Song
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind, hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is now that you're in the world.

What? It's a good song! I knew a bloke named Elton once, too. Course, he was part of this LINDA group...

Queen - I'm In Love With My Car
The machine of a dream
Such a mean machine
With a pistons a-pumpin'
And the hubcaps all clean
When I'm holdin' your wheel..

The TARDIS needs love, too.

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now...

All right, this one is really rather sappy, isn't it? But, well, it's still a good song. Rather music-changing in the early 1990's, too. Influential! So, it belongs on this list for that if nothing else!

Thomas Newman - Define Dancing
(Instrumental)
I happen to really like this song. And the title is appropriate, too.

Amandine - Faintest of Sparks
Dragged through the mire and into the light
Did something selfish but you did what was right
Started a fire with the faintest of sparks
Sprung from the ashes of two empty hearts...

First, referencing two hearts is not a common thing in music! Granted, two hearts I imagine here are supposed to reference the two lovers in the song, but I can take it and interpret it how I want, can't I? Of course I can! I'm the listener! I have interpretation rights!

The Music - Into The Night
I decided long ago
I was gonna be with you
And into the night we both will go
And we'll find our own way...

I dug this song out of Rose's collection. I happen to like it. I'm allowed to like it!

Right! That's all! I'm done!

OOC: Could this have been more difficult? Jeez! BUT! Speaking of music! [livejournal.com profile] galeforcehero made a fantastic Ten/Dorothy fanmix here! Go check it out!

<3's this list. Especially "I Could've Danced All Night." And all the sappiness, and WALL-E, of course.
