After this.
The things he promised himself he'd never do.
1) Never fall in love with a companion
2) Never bend the laws of time so far they break
3) Go back to Gallifrey
Well, he was having a rather productive Saturday, wasn't he?
He watched Romana sleep for a long while and eventually left the bed to make them some tea. It wouldn't be so bad, once she got over the shock and the breaking of the timeline and the destruction of her home world...
He sighed as he put the kettle on. He should never have gone back. Never have pulled her from what she knew. But then again, if he did she'd be dead. And he couldn't lose her, not after everything.
He grabbed some toast and the tea and headed back towards his bedroom. She'd wake up soon (one could only hope) and at least she'd have some breakfast ready.

"With younger races, they find means to make themselves feel safe and will latch onto whatever those means may be," Romana sighed. When she looked up to the ceiling she faintly recalled the incident on Gryben with the Monans and Free Time. "...Any race, really. Violence has always been the driving force for so many just to ensure their safety or their power."

He moved a little closer to her and leaned his forehead against her thigh. He liked the contact, remembering that Romana was here.

"It starts when their young, for all races. I remember in the Academy, their were fights every day. They'd keep to their own races and beat up the others." Romana could distinctly recall the lengthy reports she would receive from Narvin about them. "There had been deaths even, all because of their fears and blinded beliefs."
"I had hoped that opening it to humans, Monans, Nekkistani, just to anyone who wanted to learn would help to bring the races together." A half-hearted sound of contempt was made, leaning back against the headboard and her eyes closing. "Darkel certainly had taken pleasure in my hopes being shattered. She had used the incidents in the Academy to further her agenda."

In the end, whatever she did it got Darkel nowhere, he wanted to say. After all, the two of them were all that was left of the world. He kept it to himself, however, and closed his eyes, savoring her touch.
"People turn on one another in times of trouble or just because they can. It's the more cruel side of the universe."

"Everything went downhill from there," she said a suddenly very sad smile. "Of course I tried what I could, but it was difficult enough as it was to regain my position as President after the destruction of the Matrix. Only reason I did really was because I knew more from traveling with you and through E-Space."
Twirling a few strands of his hair around her finger she opened her eyes to look at him. "Everything seemed to go wrong all at once back home."

"I'm sorry."

"You know how the Council is. If word got out that Gallifrey, the central point for time travel and just about everything else their swelling ego-wrapped minds believed to be, then they would have felt like the laughing stock of the Universe." There was a momentary pause when Romana shifted just enough to lean forward, a barely noticeable kiss pressed to his forehead. These simple yet intimate gestures were something she was becoming accustomed to both receiving and showing.
"Besides, Narvin would have ranted on to say it was clearly on a need-to-know basis. And renegades were not quite at the top of his list of Time Lords that needed to know." But now she couldn't help but miss the man who would constantly question her judgment, on of the few that could truly keep her on her toes within the higher ranking Time Lords. "He preferred to be sure that the CIA could handle anything and everything."

He smirked a little at the rhyme which melted into a softer smile at her kiss.
"And of all the things I miss about Gallifrey, the CIA is not up there on the top ten list. Do you have any idea how often I was in trouble with them?"

Her motions of fiddling with his hair began again---she had the funniest feeling that this would become a silly habit at some point whenever they would be like this. "There had been even students at the Academy who wanted to follow in your footsteps, you know. Leela had told me that in her classes, some would ask nothing but questions of what you had accomplished and what you were up to now."

He preened as his head apparently swelled up eight hundred sizes larger.
"Yeaaaaah, well, I've always been an inspirational sort. Make people go out, be better than they were and all that and where did you learn the art of head rubbing? This is absolutely wonderful, you know that?"

It was absolutely silly. Really, it was. Things had changed and, though they were still taking some getting used to, she liked it. Which was why she stopped. Again the teasing thing was a habit that was falling into more and more often. "Don't want you falling asleep though, now would we?"

Funny. Anyone else in the universe and the mention of the high council might've sent him into a fit of rose-tinted nostalgia. But Romana knew better, and Romana made him...more centered in regards to his history.

"Granted they are boring but still I think we've both done enough resting for a little while. And as silly as you look now---and me without a camera of sorts, might I add---I've been doing most of the talking."
She paused then before adding, "Which I believe I picked up from you now that I think about it."

He leaned up and pressed a kiss to the side of her mouth. Simple and intimate.

He raised a hand to touch her shoulder and slide down her arm. Even with the long-sleeved jacket, it still felt intimate to just touch her. Maybe it was because he'd been alone so long.

Romana meant well though, her expression soft with a smile hinting at her mouth. Her fingers moved back to either side of his head now and started up the familiar motions of her now-famous-head-rubbing from before.

A pause.
"A couple of times."
Another pause.
"Okay, maybe often, but I like trouble as well, so, there you go!"
He closed his eyes again. He thought about purring, it felt that nice, that relaxing.
