The Doctor flipped a few final switches on the TARDIS console, adding the information he'd just recieved about Aislinn into the systems, should he ever run across another muse like her again. Well, he doubted it would be exactly like her, but...the same genus at least.

He turned, picking up the teacups that were left behind. Funny, he would've thought Rose would've been back by now. The sound of a familiar key in the lock made him look up. Speak of the devil...

"I want to study you," the Doctor added, raising his hand in a bit of an immature fashion.

"In front of Rose? Why Doctor, I never would have suspected." Byron's smile was a perfect blend of flirtation, outright invitation, and sass.

"...oh my God, it's like having Jack along again."

Rose does not facepalm, but she does burst into a brief fit of giggles.

"You'd best be careful or he really will leave you stranded in outer space somewhere."

The Doctor gave Byron a bit of a shrug, "Well, I suppose we could, but I always figured you were more of a private sort of man." It might've been complete naievite that kept his tone smooth, or it was...who knew what else.

He made a vague gesture in Rose's direction, "And he's far from Jack, I'll tell you that. Jack doesn't try to woo with poetry, if you remember. Just hypervodka and dirty jokes." A pause, "Did you understand that one about the elephant and the branding iron? It never made that much sense to me."

Byron leaned back again, twirling his cane. "Three is very rarely either not private or a crowd." That smile still stayed on his lips and the look he gave the Doctor was openly speculative and more than a little sensual in the speculation.

"Elephant and a branding iron?"

"I think that one might not have been a joke, actually." Rose replied, still laughing a little, and maybe blushing a little at the ideas that Byron's comments were making her try very hard not to picture. The Doctor was a little bit psychic, after all.

"Keep it up and we'll never get to the eighteenth century."

She didn't quite sound like she minded all that much.

Rose's blush? Very cute.

"You've experience with more than one then?" the Doctor gave Byron an impressed look, and smirked, "Good man."

Then, to Rose, offhandedly: "Actually, we're only about five or six minutes off of the eighteenth century. Autopilot and all that."

Byron smirked right back. "I've experience with more than that."

He flashed Rose a grin, with a wink.

"Oh, don't tell him that, he'll just go back to disapproving again."

Rose was mostly joking, though she shot a brief glance in the Doctor's direction to see if he was doing anything of the sort.

The Doctor seemed to, rather than disapproving, looking very amused. His ego was stroked by being flirted at, that always was a good thing.

"Always try to find a man with proper experience when looking around, Rose, see that was your problem with Mickey," he said, his voice teasing, "Too young, didn't know what he was doing. Older men, well, they're always the best at...well, anything, I think."

"I couldn't agree more," Byron said, for all that really, his penchant went toward younger men and women, or at least younger looking.

"Experience makes anything better."

"Unbelievable."

Rose shook her head.

"Not the part about older men, that I believe. I mean, clearly, right?" she smirked a bit and glanced at the Doctor.

"It's just I'd swear I heard that very same argument used just the other day as a reason why I should stay away from older men. I'm never listening to any of your arguments again, Doctor."

"I...work my arguements as I see fit, don't try to understand the workings of my brain, Rose Tyler, you simply haven't the capacity."

A beep from the monitor, and the Doctor's head spun around, "Ah. Speaking of the eighteenth century."

It was as if a heavy weight settled on his chest. The TARDIS usually wouldn't take him somewhere unless she felt it safe. Maybe...well, the TARDIS...maybe it was safe.

Byron's head spun in time with the Doctor's, a flash of wariness and the first flash of fear at exactly what he was doing--trying to do--occuring to him.

"We're here?"

"June 24th, 1747," the Doctor replied, "Warm summer day out there. Not on her birthday, that's probably for the best, though. Wouldn't want to have any surprise French parties wrecking...whatever history you're planning on wrecking."

Rose hopped off the TARDIS console and went to Byron, perhaps noting a little bit of that wariness. Anybody would be nervous, she thought, and he was going out there alone, not like everyone else they'd brought along who'd always had her and the Doctor.

"I don't think you'll wreck anything," Rose said, laying a hand on his arm, a small reassuring gesture that she didn't think would provoke any particular reaction from the Doctor, but that still managed to convey all the warmth she felt. "She'll adore you if she's got any sense at all."

And if she didn't, well. Rose would be happy to be the one with better sense.

Byron smiled down at her, and laid his fingers over hers, squeezing gently.

"Thank you..." Then he kissed the tip of her nose. "I'll be back."

It was a promise.
