After a few seconds of rummaging, he stopped and looked around the car. "Hello." He paused, then added, with just a bit of deadpan to mask his uncertainty, "Merry Christmas."
He rummaged around in the boot for a moment, flashes of interesting things appearing now and then. After dismissing most of what he found there, he pulled out a plastic baggie with a necklace inside. The chain was silver, the pendant a three inch long silver cylinder topped with a purple-swirled stone.
