Yes! So much agreement with your main points here; and it must be something that comes through just as strongly in New as in Classic, because New's what grabbed me.
But yes, your three big points: His outsider status, his freedom, and his love for *everything.* Those are all three such wonderful, enthralling character points. Probably not the best role model to emulate, but, dammit, if I had all the money in the world and didn't have to do the 9-to-5, I would. I would Doctor around the whole planet, showing people how wonderful the world around them can be, touching lives and leaving them better for my passing. It would be awesome >:\
I've never been into a fandom before, and I don't think I *could* be into any other fandom. Because DW is about potential and possibility and *everything.* It's an uncircumscribing fandom, not a limiting one. It's a nice reminder of how the world and life *should* be, could be, if we could pull back from our lives and see it clearly.
