• THE DOCTOR LEARNS THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS

~~

Christmas Eve. 2009.

The Doctor loved Christmas! Back when he was a wee Time Lord, the first place he ever landed was London on Christmas Eve. He promised himself he'd never miss another Christmas ever, but that promise went into the same pile as "Lose weight" and "Regenerate a better hairline" and "Stop leaving companions in other universes". But the Doctor had never quite gotten the hang of New Years'. (He once spent several hours commiserating on the similarity between the confusing nature of New Years and Thursdays with one Arthur Dent, who will sadly not be appearing in this piece of narrative. -editor)

But! Through all his travels in space and time, he still hadn't quite figured out what Christmas was for exactly. Except as a yearly excuse for turkey, too much wine, and plum pudding (all of which the Doctor approved of). This year, though, as he strode the streets on this wonderful Christmas Eve, the Doctor decided he would figure out exactly what Christmas was all about.

This may or may not have included use of a intergalactic manipulative detector and a full pack of radio stellar isotopian crystals. Oh, and a cup of hot chocolate. In a festively-coloured cup.

There was a lovely light snow, and the Doctor grinned madly at the stars. Christmas. This year, he was going to figure out what it was all about.

...Snow.

...Right, snow- Brigitta has never really seen snow before. If it happened in her childhood it got lost under everything that happened before; and she was still in a fairly warm climate for Christmas last year so snow didn't really feature. But now she is travelling in a TARDIS with a rather old alien and so can see this sort of thing.

...It really says a lot for her that she's a lot more perturbed by the snow than the time travel.

So, yes, she shall be standing fairly close to the Doctor and watching the sky warily; in a rather unsure sort of way "does this usually happen at this time of year?"

"Not in this part of the world," the Doctor says with a grin. "But! I managed to land us in a time where it did. And today, of all days, it's a good day for snow."

Christmas Eve. The Doctor loved Christmas. He especially loved spending it with people he cared about, like Brigitta. He offered her some of his hot chocolate.

"Oh" she can't help but grin slightly and regard the snow with a little less hostility- if it hasn't started burning things yet it probably won't start burning things ever; so she might as well relax a little "...it doesn't kill people then? We won't have to run from it?"

There might be a tiny edge of disappointment to that last question; but she accepts the hot chocolate anyway adn takes a sip- mmm, yummy.

"Not if you don't mind a little snow," the Doctor says, spinning around in place while it falls in his hair. "Unless we have a snowball fight, but we might wait on that until you're properly used to it."

He grins and points to a line of snowmen on the other end of the block. "It's just condensed crystalized rain. But! Fun to play with!"

[identity profile] oldoldghost.livejournal.com 2009-12-21 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh" Brigitta just chuckles at him; shaking her head slightly- but already she's bouncing, half at the fight thing (it really says a lot about her that she brightens up at the thought of any kind of fight) but half at his enthusiasm- it has to be sort of good if the Doctor likes it "...No, we can do it now; is it fun?"

She gives the snowmen a faintly cautious look and glances at him again; for obviously snowmen may secretly be evil agents of evil "...What n earth can you do with it?"

"Well, those are mostly for decoration," the Doctor says. He hops ahead, leading the way towards an ice-skating rink. "But mostly it's just about to be pretty, be wet, and impede holiday traffic. Always important. Look!"

He pointed over to the rink, where a huge Christmas tree lit up as the sun went down, glowing brightly over the skaters.

aaaargle the holiday traffic ;;

"Right" Brigitta nods wryly; following him with a faint bounce in her step- though she still keeps fixing the snow below with a beady kind of intensity; half expecting it to turn into a giant-frog thing of something. She still hasn't quite got the hang of Christmas spirit.

...Her eyes do widen at the rink though; yay sports! "Can we go on that? It looks fun."

Tell me about it, man. Five hours on the Beltway, me.

And how's he supposed to deny that sort of enthusiasm?

"Oh, all right." He grins madly at her, and then half-hops over to rent them a few pairs of skates. They're the old-fashioned sort that strap over the shoes, something the Doctor completely prefers considering his love for his trainers.

I Knoooooooow ;;- four and an half hours for a fifteen minute journey, grah.

Mwahahaha- and so Brigitta's evil plan comes to fruition!

...Well, if she ever thought ahead enough to ever have a evil plan0 but anyway! She laughs as he hops over and then grins with glee as he returns- taking the skates with a fair amount of happiness.

...Which leads to doubt fairly quickly; and then a grudging kind of acceptance "over my shoes?"

"Here, I'll show you."

He finishes lacing up his skates, and then leans down to her, placing the skate over the shoe and tying the laces above, tucking them away to keep her from slipping on them.

"It's quite easy to skate, once you get the hang of it."
