Mercury. Not exactly the most entertaining of planets, but certainly one of the most peaceful. With the atmospheric generator setting up a heat and pressure field around where he sat outside the TARDIS, it was actually quite nice.

He had two white wicker chairs and a table set up outside the TARDIS, with a pot of tea and two cups and saucers out.

After all, he had a date arriving.

Well, not really a date.

Just Romana.

Still! No reason not to put a little effort out!

He heard the knock at the console door and he grinned. She was quick, that was for certain. He gave a rusty coil another swipe with the laser scraper and pulled himself out from under the console.

"Well! There you are! Thought I'd never see you again. Ridiculously long time, Romana. No need to primp or anything."

Teasing? Naturally.

"So! Where to next? We could stop off to the cleaners in 2333, or Paris...?"

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-07 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Only rolling her eyes, a smile tugging at her lips, ""But you know I must always look my best!"

Romana then dropped down to kneel beside him, examining the spot he was just tinkering away with. Immediately she was reaching over to where she spotted some wiring that needed a bit of re-working.

"I hope you don't expect me to be running about Paris barefoot and dressed like this." Vain? Never!

"Well, we could always go in the summer," the Doctor replied. "No, wait! I said Christmas! Have to get you proper boots for walking in the snow. Or ice-skating. I do love to ice skate. Been a while, haven't actually done it in this incarnation yet."

He practically hopped around the console as he flipped a few more switches, setting them on their way.

Was she working underneath the---oh, well. Might as well let her. He could just un-do whatever it was she did a little later.

"Right, so! Proper clothes for Romana and snowshoes."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-07 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Just re-attach the red to the magenta... there! She reached up with her right hand, grabbing the side of the console to pulled herself up.

"Ice-skating?" Of course an old nickname from the days of the Academy came to mind at the thought of the winter weather. Shrugging it off she was watching him move around the controls. "That would be interesting."

She really did miss this.

"And what about yourself? You should look into getting something as well."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I've got a coat. A rather nice coat, Janis Joplin gave me that coat. And my trainers aren't so bad on the snow. I'll have to get something to skate in, of course. I'm pretty sure I have something in the wardrobe room to skate with. Maybe Sorariar Skate Shoes. I wonder what size..."

He missed this, too.

He wouldn't say how much, of course. It wouldn't really be fair.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Looking over the TARDIS controls, half-listening to his typical stream of babbling, her eyes watched the screen, the familiar Gallifreyan text seeming to dance. Everything moving so quickly if she blinked she would have missed something.

She fluffed her damp hair a bit. Around the center of the console she peered over at him, an eyebrow arching. "Again with the shoes..."

There was no helping the tease especially to get back for his earlier one.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I like my shoes," the Doctor replied. "Very practical. And stylish."

He stepped over to her and touched a lock of her wet hair. Freshly cleaned, it was almost as if she still lived here. Domestic.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's usually the one thing you normally get right when it comes to your taste in clothing."

Again the distance between them was closing and she didn't mind. There was a tiny smile playing at her lips when she asked, "Is there something in my hair?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
He smirked. "Are you implying I've failed to get it right this time around?"

He curled the lock of hair loosely around his forefinger, eventually releasing it. He brushed a thumb against her jaw.

"Nope." As if that explained why he touched it in the first place.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm, well, the trainers may be efficient in your typical daily routine of running everywhere but I'm still not sure about them going with the pin-stripe suit."

Her eyes closed for that moment. It was comforting, that simple gesture.

"Just amusing yourself then?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a statement! Like red high heels with a blue dress," he grinned. He did like that outfit of hers, though it was something he expected from her when she was a mere 120-something. She was much more mature now.

His thumb traced down her jawline gently, eventually stopping just above her bottom lip.

"Something like that."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Romana grinned back when she opened her eyes again. "That was centuries ago. And back then your attempt at a statement was a coat with patches in the elbows and a twelve foot long scarf. I suppose you've made some improvement."

Watching and wondering, as she always had, a hand reached up, her fingers resting over his hand.

"You're such an odd man, you know."

"I've been told," the Doctor replied cheekily, smiling. He couldn't imagine what he must've looked like to her. Suddenly appearing, whisking her away, completely open---well, more open than normal---with his feelings towards her. And now, playing with her hair.

He leaned forward and pressed his forehead to hers.

"Something's going to happen," he said quietly before he could stop himself. "Something terrible's going to happen if you go back, Romana."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
A first, when he said this, the smallest of sighs passed from her lips. "It's always something and you know that. But the worse that could happen is that I would be impeached from my position and, I could even go as far as to say, exiled from Gallifrey, should those who wish to see me gone have their way."

No matter what she believed, good or misguided, the Council would always second guess and question her decisions. But still she had her own sort of faith - that she was doing the right thing for Gallifrey. Smiling, she looked up at him still. "It will be all right, Doctor.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't help the quietly incredulous laugh that came from his lips. The worst that could happen. She had no idea what the worst that could happen was, and he did. He knew.

He sighed and cupped the side of her face. His Romana. Her own Romana. Whoever she was, he didn't think he could handle losing her again. Not after...not if he could prevent it.

"I like to think so," he said. "That everything will be all right." It was more of an automatic response than anything. It didn't even feel real.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, well... things usual do. At least that what I had come to see when I used to travel with you." And here she had no idea. She could not have possibly fathomed what was going on in his mind or what would be. All she knew was that this was a little get-away from the coming and goings of her position.

Cupping his cheek with her other hand her eyes closed again, her tone just barely above a whisper when she spoke.

"Doctor..."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
When she traveled with him things were so much simpler. He didn't have the death of a whole planet---of two whole planets on his shoulders. All that pain, all his fault and she didn't know, couldn't know. How would he begin to tell her?

He parted his lips just above hers. He wanted to kiss her again, he wanted to tell her to stay. He wanted so very many things that this timey-wimey moment was giving him. What could he actually take, though?

"Romana..."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it was because she felt a little vulnerable as she stood there in nothing but those simple clothes. She wasn't the proud President of Gallifrey and all of her dominions here in the TARDIS.

From where she stood, drawing herself closer to the Doctor, Romana was nothing more than a tired Time Lord having found a place to rest if only for a little while. The past and the present were set aside for what she believed to be the present.

She pressed her lips to his firmly. Even if she did have to go back in her mind she felt she still had time.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
She kissed him firmly and he returned the kiss in kind. His hands wasted no time: one snaked around her waist while the other tangled itself in her wet hair. Passion like this was something he rarely felt let alone expressed, but this was so different. So very, very different.

She had always been the one who got away. Always.

And they had danced around each other for so very long in the past.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Both of her hands slid up his arms, gripping his shoulders as they kissed. It was filled with words unspoken. Secrets they both wanted to share.

Her chest against his she could feel both sets of beating hearts. Deepening the kiss it was easy to see that she was clinging to him as if the very idea of her letting go would be the end of everything.

For all intents and purposes, it would be. It would be the end. She would go and he would never be able to see her, ever.

He wasn't about to make this a kiss goodbye. He didn't like goodbye kisses at all. He had to figure out a way to make her stay. To convince her that his timeline with her was the best timeline. He could work out a way to hold it up, to keep time from collapsing. It wasn't selfish, he was saving her.

He cursed his brain for continuing to move at full speed, not allowing him to focus entirely on her.

This kiss felt different than the others. More intense, more desperate. He clung to that, to that desperation he felt.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
All those years they had spent traveling together, constantly arguing and teasing one another, saving each other from that loneliness that waited for them - they were one of the few things she could look back on whenever she had doubted even herself in those rare moments of her life.

She spoke his name once more, but her tone had changed from a shy whisper to huskier need. Desperation was taking its hold and she did nothing to resist it, fingers curling around the collar of his jacket.

Parting her lips and tilting her head ever so slightly to the left, Romana said his name again. It felt right, just saying it.

She spoke his name and he murmured hers, pressing a kiss to her jawbone. Well, she was tilting her head, that must mean she was directing him where she wanted to be kissed next. It was a reasonable assumption in his mind. Another kiss, this one a little lower down her throat, and another.

There were boundaries. Boundaries he set up and was completely ignoring. It was intentional irresponsibility and he should've despised himself for it.

But from the way she said his name? He couldn't figure out how.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
There was wrong, there was irresponsibility, there was irrational thinking and then there was this. Clearly at this point even the most common of sense had taken a short leave of absence when his lips kissed her throat.

A hand releasing his jacket was soon holding on the console of the TARDIS behind her, her other hand entangling in his hair.

It was silly of her to let this escalate as quickly as it was. It was just supposed to be a simple outing with an old friend. Oh how this veered off the course of normality.

"Mmm..."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
This was really not the gentlemanly thing to do. There was the gentlemanly thing to do, then there was kissing Romana's neck as she leaned against the console. This was the rather forward thing to do. Thinking things like 'What would it hurt?' were the sort of things Jack did! He was far from Jack...he was!

He couldn't just...well, he couldn't exactly stop, either. Not with the sounds she was making, they were too fascinating.

Still, he found his voice just enough to try to explain. "I...I don't...I don't normally..." Explaining was really overrated, and he kissed her again.
