Mercury. Not exactly the most entertaining of planets, but certainly one of the most peaceful. With the atmospheric generator setting up a heat and pressure field around where he sat outside the TARDIS, it was actually quite nice.
He had two white wicker chairs and a table set up outside the TARDIS, with a pot of tea and two cups and saucers out.
After all, he had a date arriving.
Well, not really a date.
Just Romana.
Still! No reason not to put a little effort out!

Oh! Right, he should leave!
A little awkwardly, he turned around and left the room, closing the door behind himself.
Okay! Well, that could've gone a lot worse.
And now Romana was in the room so she could clean up. Of course, she had no clothes to change into. Which could present itself as an amusing moment when she realized that.
Still. He couldn't...well, she didn't need to be embarrassed like that. He turned and headed for the wardrobe room to pick something up for her.

It was very much refreshing for her, even if she did realize that she had nothing to change into after words.
Well, she would have to manage somehow. At least there were towels available for her to use in the meantime. The Doctor had mentioned that he had had some new companions. Perhaps she could borrow something of theirs that might have been left behind.

Re-emerging in the brown suit, he hopped back over to the console room and got to work underneath the console. Everything needed repairing eventually.

Another two minutes would pass, including the discovery of clothing sitting on the floor outside of the door just as she poked her head out to call to him and a quick towel-drying of her hair. Only after slipping into the clean clothing and rubbing down her hair one final time did she leave both that and her old clothes in a neat pile.
It was odd for her to be walking around barefoot but she quickly became used to it. She even managed to find her way back to the console room with little trouble. Romana paused just long enough to knock lightly on the wall, just to let him know she was there before venturing in.
no subject
"Well! There you are! Thought I'd never see you again. Ridiculously long time, Romana. No need to primp or anything."
Teasing? Naturally.
"So! Where to next? We could stop off to the cleaners in 2333, or Paris...?"
no subject
Romana then dropped down to kneel beside him, examining the spot he was just tinkering away with. Immediately she was reaching over to where she spotted some wiring that needed a bit of re-working.
"I hope you don't expect me to be running about Paris barefoot and dressed like this." Vain? Never!
no subject
He practically hopped around the console as he flipped a few more switches, setting them on their way.
Was she working underneath the---oh, well. Might as well let her. He could just un-do whatever it was she did a little later.
"Right, so! Proper clothes for Romana and snowshoes."
no subject
"Ice-skating?" Of course an old nickname from the days of the Academy came to mind at the thought of the winter weather. Shrugging it off she was watching him move around the controls. "That would be interesting."
She really did miss this.
"And what about yourself? You should look into getting something as well."
no subject
He missed this, too.
He wouldn't say how much, of course. It wouldn't really be fair.
no subject
She fluffed her damp hair a bit. Around the center of the console she peered over at him, an eyebrow arching. "Again with the shoes..."
There was no helping the tease especially to get back for his earlier one.
no subject
He stepped over to her and touched a lock of her wet hair. Freshly cleaned, it was almost as if she still lived here. Domestic.
no subject
Again the distance between them was closing and she didn't mind. There was a tiny smile playing at her lips when she asked, "Is there something in my hair?"
no subject
He curled the lock of hair loosely around his forefinger, eventually releasing it. He brushed a thumb against her jaw.
"Nope." As if that explained why he touched it in the first place.
no subject
Her eyes closed for that moment. It was comforting, that simple gesture.
"Just amusing yourself then?"
no subject
His thumb traced down her jawline gently, eventually stopping just above her bottom lip.
"Something like that."
no subject
Watching and wondering, as she always had, a hand reached up, her fingers resting over his hand.
"You're such an odd man, you know."
no subject
He leaned forward and pressed his forehead to hers.
"Something's going to happen," he said quietly before he could stop himself. "Something terrible's going to happen if you go back, Romana."
no subject
No matter what she believed, good or misguided, the Council would always second guess and question her decisions. But still she had her own sort of faith - that she was doing the right thing for Gallifrey. Smiling, she looked up at him still. "It will be all right, Doctor.
no subject
He sighed and cupped the side of her face. His Romana. Her own Romana. Whoever she was, he didn't think he could handle losing her again. Not after...not if he could prevent it.
"I like to think so," he said. "That everything will be all right." It was more of an automatic response than anything. It didn't even feel real.
no subject
Cupping his cheek with her other hand her eyes closed again, her tone just barely above a whisper when she spoke.
"Doctor..."
no subject
He parted his lips just above hers. He wanted to kiss her again, he wanted to tell her to stay. He wanted so very many things that this timey-wimey moment was giving him. What could he actually take, though?
"Romana..."
no subject
From where she stood, drawing herself closer to the Doctor, Romana was nothing more than a tired Time Lord having found a place to rest if only for a little while. The past and the present were set aside for what she believed to be the present.
She pressed her lips to his firmly. Even if she did have to go back in her mind she felt she still had time.
no subject
She had always been the one who got away. Always.
And they had danced around each other for so very long in the past.
no subject
Her chest against his she could feel both sets of beating hearts. Deepening the kiss it was easy to see that she was clinging to him as if the very idea of her letting go would be the end of everything.
no subject
He wasn't about to make this a kiss goodbye. He didn't like goodbye kisses at all. He had to figure out a way to make her stay. To convince her that his timeline with her was the best timeline. He could work out a way to hold it up, to keep time from collapsing. It wasn't selfish, he was saving her.
He cursed his brain for continuing to move at full speed, not allowing him to focus entirely on her.
This kiss felt different than the others. More intense, more desperate. He clung to that, to that desperation he felt.
