Mercury. Not exactly the most entertaining of planets, but certainly one of the most peaceful. With the atmospheric generator setting up a heat and pressure field around where he sat outside the TARDIS, it was actually quite nice.
He had two white wicker chairs and a table set up outside the TARDIS, with a pot of tea and two cups and saucers out.
After all, he had a date arriving.
Well, not really a date.
Just Romana.
Still! No reason not to put a little effort out!

His hand slid up to cup the side of her face as he deepened the kiss. Still. Kissing Romana. If he told his fourth self that he'd be in this situation---well, he probably wouldn't be terribly surprised, but he'd probably be surprised that it happened so quickly. Things like expressions of adoration took time and why was his mind still buzzing at full tilt?

The music, the atmosphere of the dance floor - never before had she felt so alive. Not since their past adventures when they were running hand in hand through the streets of Paris, trying to find their way through the maze of the Nimon. All of the thrills of traveling always came back to tease her when she was with him. Romana nipped his lower lip suddenly, playfully, unable to resist the habit of competition.
no subject
With the same sort of competitive spirit, he took advantage of his thumb's closeness to her earlobe and stroked it very gently. He had no idea if that was a heavy nerve center for Romana, but he didn't imagine the sensation would be unpleasant.
What good was all the kissing doing? Expressing what he was pretty certain he'd felt for her since around their first time meeting? Then what?
no subject
Seeing as it was her move again this female Time Lord parted her lips just slightly to deepen this kiss even further, silently grateful for their lungs could hold much more air than any of the other typical aliens. Fingers threaded in his hair while the other hand slide down and taking hold of the lapel of his tuxedo.
It wasn't wise to allow herself to be swept away like this. Goodness knows how many times Braxiatel had scolded her for her lack of common sense. --But sense be damned, she was enjoying it all.
no subject
Well, that part of him that got swept away managed to forget that he was still holding his drink in one hand and when it fell it managed to get all over his tuxedo and Romana's dress.
He broke away from her quickly. Dammit!
"I'm sorry!"
no subject
"Clumsy as usual," was all she said when she turned her back to him to find napkins of any sort. She manage to grab a handful and hand a few over to him before trying to mop up what she could from her clothing.
"... Red is usually my color."
no subject
He padded at the red liquid on his tuxedo---well, it was about time he had it cleaned at any rate---and sighed.
"Well, no need to worry, we'll just get you into the TARDIS, get you out of those clothes."
A pause.
And, hastily added, "To clean! To clean the dress!"
no subject
"Sometimes I wonder where your mind does wander off to."
To use up any more napkins would have been waste.
"And possibly a quick shower. Your aim is quite impeccable, really."
no subject
The Doctor was a gentleman above all things. Well, except maybe troublemaker. But he was a gentleman, especially with Romana. President of his race! He couldn't be non-gentlemanly with her (except when he was, which wasn't now!)
"And my mind is perfectly non-wandering!"
no subject
Now that the dress was at least dry enough so that the stain would not spread any further Romana brushed her fingers over the ruined material. It was going to take quite a good cleaner's to take it all out, especially the longer she wore it like this and allowed it to set in.
"It does wander, Doctor. And quite often at that."
And to cease any further banter at that this Lady President had linked one of her arms with his, obviously ready to return to the TARDIS.
no subject
"Not to the places you were implying it was wandering were you implying that's where it was wandering?"
Was that even a sentence? He wasn't sure.
All the same, he kept up with Romana as they headed back to the TARDIS. He slid the key into the lock and held the door open for her. He could be a gentleman!
"Moved the showers," he said. "Down the hallway, over the bins, across...oh, I'd better show you..."
no subject
Thanking him with a nod of her head she moved along inside. Once within the comforting walls of the TARDIS Romana looked around again - the new desktop was still going to take some getting used. And even before he started with the directions she had already headed for the hallway.
"Did anything else change since the last I was here?" Again her curiosity struck. It was really a habit she needed to work on.
no subject
His tuxedo was a little too slim-fitting, he decided. Especially when it was wet and sticky with the drink. He'd really need to change. Couldn't he have picked something else? Maybe a glass of water? Water wasn't sticky and wouldn't ruin their clothes.
"Few new companion rooms over the years. The TARDIS has taken to personalizing them."
no subject
She refrained from making a face as she walked, the sticky material becoming rather uncomfortable when she moved. The sooner she showered and changed the better. And this time she would wear slightly more comfortable shoes too. She wanted to take them off now but it would not have been very Lady President-like to hop along down on one foot while trying to remove the other. Not matter how much of a kick the doctor would have gotten out of it.
As they passed some of those said rooms she couldn't help but wonder how many. From the looks of things it must have been quite a few. She did not say anything on it though. It wasn't her busy to ask.
"It is good to see her again," Romana said suddenly. Despite the fact she developed a connection with her own TARDIS it was only the presidential one. The TARDIS here, now, brought back fond memories and left her feeling comforted.
no subject
It was very true. He remembered how sad the TARDIS was when Romana left, reflecting his own melancholy over her leaving. Oh, she'd be superb (obviously!), but it was different. It was lonely. They were two rather sappy individuals, he and the TARDIS, it appeared.
They turned another corner and the door to the washing-up-room appeared before them. Unlike the rest of the coral-desktoped TARDIS, this door was brass. He turned the handle and opened the door to Romana.
The room was white ivory and brass, reflecting Earth's bathroom styles of the 18th century. A clawed-foot bathtub in the center of the room, an elaborate shower on the far end. Arrays of glass-bottled soaps and shampoos from a variety of
hotelsplaces sat on display on the brass shelves along the white-tiled walls."Figured while I was remodeling..."
no subject
"Well now, perhaps you do have an eye for remodeling," she teased with a grin. For a moment she inspected the room, picking up the little bottles to study the labels, examining the shower.
Once satisfied Romana turned to him and rested her hands on her hips. "I'll just be a few minutes then, nothing too long."
no subject
Oh! Right, he should leave!
A little awkwardly, he turned around and left the room, closing the door behind himself.
Okay! Well, that could've gone a lot worse.
And now Romana was in the room so she could clean up. Of course, she had no clothes to change into. Which could present itself as an amusing moment when she realized that.
Still. He couldn't...well, she didn't need to be embarrassed like that. He turned and headed for the wardrobe room to pick something up for her.
no subject
It was very much refreshing for her, even if she did realize that she had nothing to change into after words.
Well, she would have to manage somehow. At least there were towels available for her to use in the meantime. The Doctor had mentioned that he had had some new companions. Perhaps she could borrow something of theirs that might have been left behind.
no subject
Re-emerging in the brown suit, he hopped back over to the console room and got to work underneath the console. Everything needed repairing eventually.
no subject
Another two minutes would pass, including the discovery of clothing sitting on the floor outside of the door just as she poked her head out to call to him and a quick towel-drying of her hair. Only after slipping into the clean clothing and rubbing down her hair one final time did she leave both that and her old clothes in a neat pile.
It was odd for her to be walking around barefoot but she quickly became used to it. She even managed to find her way back to the console room with little trouble. Romana paused just long enough to knock lightly on the wall, just to let him know she was there before venturing in.
no subject
"Well! There you are! Thought I'd never see you again. Ridiculously long time, Romana. No need to primp or anything."
Teasing? Naturally.
"So! Where to next? We could stop off to the cleaners in 2333, or Paris...?"
no subject
Romana then dropped down to kneel beside him, examining the spot he was just tinkering away with. Immediately she was reaching over to where she spotted some wiring that needed a bit of re-working.
"I hope you don't expect me to be running about Paris barefoot and dressed like this." Vain? Never!
no subject
He practically hopped around the console as he flipped a few more switches, setting them on their way.
Was she working underneath the---oh, well. Might as well let her. He could just un-do whatever it was she did a little later.
"Right, so! Proper clothes for Romana and snowshoes."
no subject
"Ice-skating?" Of course an old nickname from the days of the Academy came to mind at the thought of the winter weather. Shrugging it off she was watching him move around the controls. "That would be interesting."
She really did miss this.
"And what about yourself? You should look into getting something as well."
no subject
He missed this, too.
He wouldn't say how much, of course. It wouldn't really be fair.
