The Doctor flipped a few final switches on the TARDIS console, adding the information he'd just recieved about Aislinn into the systems, should he ever run across another muse like her again. Well, he doubted it would be exactly like her, but...the same genus at least.

He turned, picking up the teacups that were left behind. Funny, he would've thought Rose would've been back by now. The sound of a familiar key in the lock made him look up. Speak of the devil...

Reinette actually laughed, though not so much so that she covered up her pleasure at his honest answer. It was so rare within these walls.

"I find myself enjoying it as well."

Byron smiled, an honest flash of a grin, delighted to have made her laugh, to have found any sort of ease at what could have been disaster.

"Then my trip has not been in vain. I made you smile and that makes it all worthwhile."

"Indeed, I was correct before," Reinette becan walking again, a more natural smile on her features. "You are quite the wordsmith. You were concerned it would be a waste of time, then?"

"What if you refused to see me? Thought me impudent? Cast me from your presence? Were not even here? When I realized we had come too early, I was quite distraught..." Which was possibly an understatement. Or possibly just flattering words. The soft smile on his lips made it hard to tell.

"You are interesting, intelligent, and talented. I never refuse such things." Too many years practicing wit and conversation in too many salons. "Who else travled with you, and your 'we', that you misstepped time in such a fashion?"

He cursed himself mentally for the slip of the tongue that had led to the "we."

"I am loath to admit it, but sadly, time travel is still not possible for humanity in the future. We've advanced in science a great deal, and traveled to the moon, but not through time. Other...worlds, however, have done far better with such things. A friend of mine knows someone from such a world. It was they who brought me here."

"I also have a friend that has traveled the stars," Reinette offered quietly. "That has seen, and done, many wonderful things. It is yet another thing for us to share in."

He nodded, just slightly.

"Yes, I suppose it is."

They continued walking, the scenery changing constantly around them.

"How long do you intend to stay?"

It was a question to be asked of all travelers.

"How long would you have me stay?"

He had no idea how long the Doctor would allow it.

"I do build walls, or place restrictions of peoples behaivor. Their decisions." Reinette's voice was firm. "They will only come to resent you for it."

He smiled, just a little. "A woman after my own heart. Shall we just say that I left my return time undecided."

Reinette, for the smallest of moments, did not have a voice. Not quite speechless, perhaps, but she was still unsure what to say. Was it always the way with such visitors? Yes, they came. But they always left at the most unexpected times as well.

"I suppose it depends on how well we get along..." he ventured.

"Did you not know," Reinette teased lightly, composure regained quickly. "I get along well with everyone." It was one of the kinder things said about her in court, and her tone was wry, if playful.

"I never trust what I have heard, but only what experience lends." He smiled down at her.

"That is an admirable trait." Reinette returned the smile, aware that they had reached the end of the gallery. "To want to see, and experince for yourself."

His smile held a trace of bitterness. "Words others say rarely paint the whole, or true, picture."

Reinette considered that.

"And what of you? You do not seem to include yourself with these 'others'. Are your words different?

Byron tucked her hand more firmly in his arm. "I abhor gossip and find it far more freeing to speak the truth than lie." He flashed her a slightly wicked grin. "Of course, few want to hear the truth, and I don't promise to not dress it up in flowery phrases."

"I believe sir," Reinette laughed again. "That you may be one of those few with the rare skill of mocking someone, and leaving them completely unaware ot it. Unless you wish them to know, and you dispatch that with just as much skill."

"It is a gift I have honed to a sharpened edge." He gave her a half bow.

She could not help but meet his action with a curtsey, deep, and finished. For Reinette was never one to do by half.

"Then you must consider me impressed."

He arched an eyebrow, then smiled. "I shall only dream to hope that is true."

"It is," she assured him. "I am not one to lie either."
