OPEN RP FOR ANYBODY (RP topic from [livejournal.com profile] oncoming_storms)

You have picked up a distress signal, and followed it to a hotel in London. All you are able to determine is that it is coming from someplace inside the hotel, and is not terrestrial in origin. What will you do? What will you find at the other end of the signal?

"But I've found a...oh, nevermind."

The receptionist was exceptionally unhelpful, so the Doctor darted down the hallways of the hotel, knocking on doors. One of them would be the person who sent the distress signal.

OOC: Open to all. Any universe, any time. If you want to have your pup be in this hotel and answer the door, just go for it! I won't be up toooooooo much later this evening, but I won't leave anybody hanging, I'll catch you asap tomorrow afternoon!

Right. Toxic gas. Stuck on a ledge. Someone trying to kill them. Ordinary day. Maria took a deep breath, as he'd instructed, turning away from the mist as best she could. Noticing the Doctor inching towards a window, she followed him.

They might have better luck if a young girl was knocking on the window, rather than an endearingly manic Doctor.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
He inched towards the window slowly, but kept his eyes on the mist. It spilled out and after only a few seconds, evaporated. Well, at least he wasn't wrong about that guess.

"Right, Maria. We're going to move towards the next window, all right? You ready? Keep your head up and don't look down."

[identity profile] not-on-her-own.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Piece of cake," she murmured, trying to be light about it, even as she took another deep breath.

Then she nodded, heeding his words. It was a little difficult, but anytime someone in a movie looked down, it made things worse. Best not to. She couldn't help clutching onto him a bit.

As they neared the window, Maria anxiously peered inside. Unfortunately, they didn't have a lamp with them this time to break inside, should the occupants not be there. But she tried knocking, hoping that would prove successful.

"Here..."

He reached into his pocket and reproduced the sonic screwdriver. He waved it over the lock, and the window popped open.

"Think we should go for having lost our camera again?"

[identity profile] not-on-her-own.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
She laughed a bit, nodding.

"Yeah, because...who could miss this view?"

Seemed as logical as anything else they could come up with. The poor uncle and his niece had lost their camera. And they rarely got into the city, after all.

Eve looked across the room toward the bedroom, wondering what it was John was doing. He'd told her to stay out in the loungeroom of the suite, and made her promise she wouldn't come in till he called her. The concern on his face and the strange object that was on the floor, covered in a large smudged tarpaulin, made her nod and back out, giving him one last curious look before closing the door behind her. He'd been having meetings with people for weeks, and all he'd said is it might be a way for him find a way to go back and get Sam. Make sure she was safe. Get her away from the Corporation.

She understood his determination. After what he'd told her of his time in the future she could also understand why he didn't want her to know too much, in case things went wrong. No matter what they couldn't torture the truth from someone if they didn't know it in the first place. And that's what John had said they were like.

She paced slowly around the room, tugging the bathrobe tighter around herself and then went and poured some coffee. Her hands cradled the cup as she blew gently across the surface and stood staring out the large windows down into the streets below, again wondering what it was that had John so determined, worried a little that it might be dangerous. She caught herself thinking that and huffed a slightly derisive laugh at herself. Yeah, right!

She heard the knock at the door, rather urgent, and looked from it to the bedroom door, still firmly closed, and back to the door. Putting her coffee cup down she crossed across the large room and looked through the peephole, frowning at what she saw. A strange man, in a suit and what appeared to be runners, jigging somewhat impatiently and glancing up and down the hall. Her fingers closed around the baby Glock she'd slipped into her pocket on the way to the door and she cautiously opened it, still on the chain, and looked out at the man, a pleasant but curious smile on her face.

"Yes? Can I help you?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a brilliant idea, I think," the Doctor said with a nod, pulling open the window, "After you."

Not because he wanted her to go into the room first, but because he wanted her to be off the ledge first. Sarah Jane was going to kill him when she found out. Oh, well. At least he could say first hand that he knew she'd do all right in world-saving situations!

"Right, now, we need to find out who was staying in that room."

[identity profile] not-on-her-own.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Maria was more than pleased to be off the ledge, and didn't bother hiding that pleasure. For good measure, she took a quick, deep breath.

"Not too shabby, Doctor, yeah?" She smiled a bit. Despite everything...well, it was still thrilling.

The room they were currently in also seemed deserted. So far. But it was more important they find out who was in the room they'd nearly been killed in.

"Front desk wouldn't just give that information out, would they?"

[identity profile] prophecyinpaint.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's what I do." He really isn't sure how else to put it beyond that. But he should probably try. "I have a- I dunno. Power? Ability? Gift? Curse? I see things. Used to just be the future, but then I started to learn more. Started to see the threads and chase them. And then more stuff happened, which was bad, and I was here. And here, I paint. Whether I want to or not."

He pulls out a marker from a pocket and signs his name in the corner and holds it out, white eyes meeting the Doctor's if he'll glance up. "Take it. It's yours."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, they wouldn't," the Doctor replied, "But, if you can distract them at the front desk, then I can get around and get what we need out of the computer. What do you think?"

He grinned madly at her (as if the near-death experience was nothing, of course!) "Up for a little espionage?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor takes the painting, still flabbergasted. He looks up to Isaac's white eyes, and feels a shiver run down his spine. It was so odd, seeing those blank eyes look back at him.

"There's a way out," he says, "How I got in. It'll take you to London, in the middle of a very posh, very snobby hotel, but it's out of here."

[identity profile] prophecyinpaint.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Isaac smiles sadly and shakes his head. "Not for me it doesn't. It never leads out. There is no out. Only people to ever get in are you, Hana and Sylar once, but he might have been a hallucination."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"The US doesn't deserve your brilliance," the Doctor said. "And...I know you've got so terribly much going on, but I can kick my current companion off the TARDIS if you'll come back away with me. The universe isn't as easy to save without you at my side!"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he could see why his other self didn't take her along! How picky!

"Have you ever tried to locate a signal in London? There are so many signals moving back and forth in this area, I'm lucky to have got a distress signal at all!"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nobody answering...nobody answering...he wondered if he would get in incredible trouble if he simply opened the door and poked his head in....

And then the door opened to reveal a woman in a bathrobe with a cup of coffee.

"Oh! Hello." Um...um...

"You don't happen to have a distress-signal emanating object in there, do you?"

[identity profile] londonistadonna.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh." She hadn't considered that. "I just had thought maybe a distress signal would've been something a lot different from the rest.

"But you didn't get to answering my other question. Who are you? I mean, you said John Smith, but if you're one of the only people roundabout that's got this signal in sight, you can't be from around here." Physically, temporally, either way, it wasn't like all 21st century Humans were able to detect possibly alien distress signals. (Though she wondered how they couldn't, with all those mobile communication devices always up to their ears.)

[identity profile] not-on-her-own.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Maria nodded, rubbing her hands together with the anticipation of excitement. Her grin back at him was nearly as mad.

"Always," she responded, almost gleeful. Well, who wouldn't be up for espionage?

"Leave the distracting to me, Doctor."

And then she mock-saluted him.

[identity profile] idealized-sue.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh daddy, you know that I would love to go with you, but we talked about this the last time you asked me to come away with you. You have simply got to learn to save the universe without me."

[identity profile] clever-wanderer.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's the other way!"

The Doctor pointed desperately in the opposite direction down the hallway, hoping he might get through to his double. The signal was most definitely coming from the left, there was no doubt about it. It was running at a rather high watt, he noticed, which was extremely unusual for such a small signal.

But then, there really wasn't much about this day that wasn't unusual. He stepped out into the hallway, opposite his double, towards the left.

"Are you coming?"

[identity profile] lost-la-femme.livejournal.com 2007-10-15 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Eve blinked and looked at him a little curiously, her mind immediately going to whatever it was John had in the bedroom. Was it raising some alarm somewhere? If it was something to do with going to the future would it do that?

And how would this man know anyway?

"Not that I'm aware of," she replied, casting a quick glance down at his shoes then back up again. "Have you lost one? Or are you the hotel's security?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-17 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor nodded, and led the way towards the receptionist's desk.

He stayed behind the corner.

"Right, you distract, I'll get the information."

OOC: Sorry for the long delay, it's been a rough couple of days RL for me!

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-17 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So he is trapped. The Doctor feels a sudden, intense sympathy for the man before him. He knows what it's like to feel that way.

"Here..." he reaches into his pocket and produces a cell phone. It's not the one Martha is supposed to call him on, it's the one he used to use for UNIT calls only.

"Take this. If I can get in here once, I'm sure I can get a signal in, too. I'll figure out a way to get you out, I promise."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-17 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"But I can't do it as well without you!" It was true, and every day seemed so lonely without his daughter there.

But he couldn't be selfish, the rest of the universe needed her so much more.

"I understand."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-17 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
What a difficult fellow! The Doctor wondered if he was that way to his companions, but decided that he was most certainly more patient than this man was being!

"Right. Okay. We've got the subatomic waves, and the---" he glanced at his double's controller, "Why is that watt so high? That doesn't make sense. Would've noticed power surges by now, I think."

He glanced at the lightbulbs around the hallways, "No power surges. Are you sure that thing's working properly?"

OOC: Sorry for the long delay, RL's been kickin' my butt!

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-10-17 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He darted up the stairs, but paused to glance behind him at his future self's companion.

"Do you always ask so many questions?" It was partially a compliment, partially an insult.
