The Doctor held her close, letting the kisses last longer than he should and giving up completely on caring. This was more than simple lust or even just desire. She was more than just a human to him. A guardian. A protector, a guide. A lover even when there was nothing physical between them, not even the kisses they shared then.

He took another step closer, which brought them that much closer to the bed. He felt an odd sense of anticipation run through his veins. For all the time in the universe he knew he had, he felt oddly...rushed, nervous.

Something had just ended for him moments earlier. Now, something was beginning.
