After this.

"Behave!" The Doctor slammed his fist against the console, and the rickety machine finally settled down its racket, twisting the correct way down the Time Vortex, towards New York, 2007.

Nathan Petrelli's campaign headquarters? He could settle somewhere around there. That would be good, be easy for the other man to find the ship and also get him back without much of a question as to where he'd gone.

He materialized the TARDIS in the alley next to the campaign headquarters and grinned. Perfect landing. Smooth, without fault.

Beep. Beep.

Well, almost no fault.

Time disruption on this planet? Time being folded in on itself? No, that must've just been a computer error. The Doctor shrugged on his coat and stepped out, heading for the front door of the campaign office with a lopsided grin on his face.

Nathan stared in awe, looking around the area and taking it all in. As he did, his features softened slightly and a corner of his lips lifted. "So... humanity survives." He said quietly, barely containing the urge to call Peter and tell him that everything was going to be okay.

"It makes me feel kind of small." He said. "It actually feels good not to have the weight of... everything."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"More than that," the Doctor replied, almost proudly, "Humanity thrives."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
A smile ghosted over Nathan's lips. "My brother will be glad to hear this. He thinks the world is going to be destroyed by this... explosion. Soon actually."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor nodded, "Well, it'll be something to tell him about."

The time ripples, he knew, could've been clouding some sort of global or citywide destruction from this era, keeping even him from the knowledge. He'd have to talk to Peter, and Nathan, and this time-bender...later, though. This was supposed to be fun.

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-06 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Are there history books? All the way back to the original and... 2007?" Nathan asked, a mischievous grin painting his features. He could find out if he actually won the congressional race while he was here.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-07 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooooh, I should imagine so," the Doctor replied. He kept his gaze forward, "Then again, I wouldn't look through them if I were you. The slightest change in your timeline could alter that history. The whole universe hangs by such a delicate string of coincidences, it's really useless to meddle with it--unless, like me, you're a Timelord."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-09 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan shrugged lightly. "I guess so..." He glanced at the doctor and tried another tactic. "Have you ever heard the name Petrelli?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-10 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Isn't that the name on your congressional banners? Something about Vote Petrelli 2007?" He gave the man a smirk, "You don't want to know your personal future, Mr. Petrelli. Leads to far too many paradoxes and confusion."

He pointed to a large, heavily-lit area jutting out of the side of one of the highrises.

"National Human Genetic Advancement and Research center. Lots of theories about evolution that go long beyond your species. Brilliant people."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-10 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan's gaze followed to where the Doctor pointed, his eyes squinting to see the building. "They research genetics and... DNA. Do you know any of their theories? I mean like what causes.... certain people to be different."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-10 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oooooh, a little bit, all theories on human evolution, finally being able to use the entire brain, as opposed to only pieces," the Doctor said, "Quite fascinating, actually. They've got eighty five research setups along this coast, but most of the actual work is done on Suresh 4, a satellite and station funded by the project."

He grinned, "Didn't think you'd be interested in human evolution, learn new things about people every day."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-10 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan smirked lightly, an attempt to feign only mild interest. "I'm interested in a lot of things. I mean it's profitable to dabble in a little of everything, right?"

He paused a moment before asking another question. "So that's what makes certain people different? I mean it's a theory... people using all of the brain instead of a small portion of it."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Something like that," the Doctor replied, "Basically it's the human race evolving itself in order to stop disasters, save the world, that sort of thing. Fascinating stuff, but I'm not sure if all of it is accurate. After all, my race never had that happen, and we've been through plenty of disasters ourselves."

He gave his head a scratch, "'Course, we also use a lot more of our brains."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-11 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Cause you're a... Timelord." Nathan nodded concedingly. "If the human race is evolving to stop these... disasters, why isn't everyone evolving. And does that mean that everyone is capable of certain... abilities, they only have to learn to use them, or that part of their brain?" He asked curiously, trying to pick his words wisely and still keep an air of only partial interest even though he knew he wasn't doing very well. He truely wanted these answers though.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-15 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I could assume that everyone is capable, but only certain brains can respond to it," the Doctor replied, "Brains with the capability of fast evolution. Probably highly creative minds. I'm surprised they don't have more children in there, their creativity could fuel an empire. Just simple human children."

The platform wobbled as a hovercar sped past them.

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-15 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan reached out to the side uncertainly as the platform wobbled. "Is this thing stable?" He asked, noting that there was limited railing on the edges.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-15 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I can't imagine that it wouldn't be----"

Naturally, that was when another hovercar sped a bit too closely, and the railing on which the Doctor was holding got knocked loose. The Doctor tumbled over the side, gripping onto one of the railings above what had become a decent-sized fall.

"Leave it to me to speak to soon!"

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-16 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nathan's eyes narrowed and he knelt down to extend an arm to the Doctor. "Doctor. This isn't safe. And I think I'd need you to get back home." He said, only a hint of worry lacing his voice when he successfully got a hold of the doctor's hand.

Another hovercar hurried past and he let go again to hold himself steady on the track. He bit back a curse and then reached for the Doctor again, only to see the losened railing break free. "Doctor!"

In a split decision, he jumped off and flew towards the Doctor. He wraped his fingers around one wrist, holding him suspeneded in air for a moment and then slowly began descending to the ground.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-16 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to say the Doctor had screamed would've implied he was terrified, which he would never, ever admit. Thus, the 'scream' became more of a dignified yell, in his mind and the minds of anyone he might tell a story of his time in New New York to.

It took him a moment to register why he wasn't falling. Why he wasn't already dead and explaining regeneration to this lovely American senator-wannabe.

"We're flying," the Doctor said, "No, no, gravity's still pulling me down. You! You're flying!"

He grinned madly up at Nathan, "Brilliant!"

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-16 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The grin was infectious and turned Nathan's look from worry/fear to an amused grin. The Doctor's feet touched the ground first and then Nathan landed in front of him. Imediately, his gaze darted around to see if anyone had noticed. There were a few people staring but not many.

"Landing is getting better." He said and then looked to the doctor. "Are you alright?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"All right? You were flying!" The year 5 billion, hovercars and motorways and the city of New New York above them, and the Doctor was completely and totally ecstatic about the 21st century man in front of him.

"Have you always flew? Are you alien, or just---" he literally bounced a bit, "Yes! Yes! Evolutionary! S'what they were talking about in the seminars, you're a piece of human evolution! Oh, that's fantastic. Fantastic!"

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Human evolution." Nathan nodded slightly, the corners of his lips still twitching sligtly at the infectious excitement of the Doctor. "You'd be surprised how often I've heard those words lately. It just started this past year... but... what seminars were you attending?"
