After this.

"Behave!" The Doctor slammed his fist against the console, and the rickety machine finally settled down its racket, twisting the correct way down the Time Vortex, towards New York, 2007.

Nathan Petrelli's campaign headquarters? He could settle somewhere around there. That would be good, be easy for the other man to find the ship and also get him back without much of a question as to where he'd gone.

He materialized the TARDIS in the alley next to the campaign headquarters and grinned. Perfect landing. Smooth, without fault.

Beep. Beep.

Well, almost no fault.

Time disruption on this planet? Time being folded in on itself? No, that must've just been a computer error. The Doctor shrugged on his coat and stepped out, heading for the front door of the campaign office with a lopsided grin on his face.

The Doctor glanced over at Nathan, then gave his chin a scratch in thought. "Explosion, explosion...you know, I can't remember. Whole city of New York was destroyed, though. Long before this one was created. But that is in a different time stream, and probably centuries off from where you're from. Time is like...a sort of string. We just slide through the string to get to one end of it. Make any sense?"

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"And there are different time strings?" Nathan asked, trying to work it through in his mind. He was an intelligent man, this shouldn't be this difficult. "But the explosion wasn't in mine? ...ours? My brother's and mine? Well we don't own it, but... you get what I'm saying."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor opened his mouth to make comment on the multiple strings---but something in the intensity of Nathan's voice stopped him.

"What explosion? What do you mean?"

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan blinked and pressed his lips together for a moment. If this man who could travel through time didn't know of an explosion, maybe it was all false... everything. He lifted a corner of his lips and smirked. "Some lunatics will rave about anything, I guess. Some explosion that could happen in a few days... but I guess it's not; which is good."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well," the Doctor gave his head a scratch, then fumbled in his pocket until he produced a bit of twine.

"Time, a string. We travel through it, but if something happens, something that could alter the time strand..." he pulled out his sonic screwdriver and vibrated a hole in the middle of the string, breaking it in two.

"Two timestrands, two universes. If you think your lunatic is crazy, you should try traveling to one of these universes."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan narrowed his eyes. "Okay, but what would happen to make that happen? What causes an alteration?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-03-29 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Catastrophe? Anything, actually," the Doctor replied, flipping a few more switches, "I'll look into this. Give you something a bit more solid before we take you back."

The Time Vortex ripples were worrisome, though. And a man who could alter time. He hadn't seen that...well, since the Time Wars.

OOC: Sorry! Life's been crazy! I'm back!

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-03-29 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Solid would be good compared to the alternative." Nathan nodded, his gaze going back to the console at the center of the room. Solid was very good, especially when your brother was the one claiming to explode.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor clapped his hands together, "Right, right. Okay. New New York, yes? All right, let me see..."

He glanced down into the monitor at their rapdily approaching exit on the Time Vortex. Very nice. Old girl was doing better than he expected. He grinned at the console as it lowered, landing them right in the middle of New City Square.

"We're here," he said, pulling the parking brake, "New City Square, St. Patrick's weekend. Now, St. Patrick's Day's gotten rather confused over the millenia, but it's still got a parade, so, you'll have to see."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only two 'New's' now?" Nathan asked, somewhat amusedly as he shoved his hands in the pockets of his overcoat. "Most holidays are confused, I'm afraid. But who doesn't love a parade. Pity my kids couldn't join us."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-03-31 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope, just gets tiring having to say New New New New New New New New New New New York every time," he replied, grinning.

He practically bounced towards the door, stuffing his hands into his pockets, "You've got kids? Brilliant. How old?" The Doctor would never really admit it, but he loved kids. Missed his own, all the time. Still. Long time ago.

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-03-31 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Four and six... almost five and six as I am continually reminded the past few days." Nathan said, a smile ghosting over his lips and then disappearing again just as quickly. He followed the Doctor to the door, completely expecting nothing to have changed outside. "They're a handful. You have kids too?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-03-31 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor took a breath. "I did," he said, "A long time ago."

With that, he pushed open the door, revealing a large, empty street. No people, no cars, just an intersection of buildings with a few doors and even fewer lit windows. As they stepped out, the Doctor gave a point above them.

Hovering over their heads were hundreds of flying cars, each taking routes through the sky as one would through a road. People and aliens walked along transparent walkways above their heads, and lights and holograms buzzed out commericals and times for the St. Patrick's Day Parade (244 Ticsecs, 45th Level, New New York Square).

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-03-31 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
At first, when Nathan stepped out to see the empty streets his heart fell, the uncertainty and anguish of the emptiness etched over his features plainly. But then the Doctor pointed up and his eyes grew wide as he saw everything... his breath catching in his throat and then growing heavy in his chest. "How did you do this?" He asked, the only questions he could form at the moment. "This is New York. How?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-03-31 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"We've gone into the future," he said, grinning up at the sight, "This is my...time machine. It's the year 76850321. The first half-Galantrian woman is elected President. The Crenendals have eighteen number one hit singles, making them the second most popular artist in this galaxy. Oh, and someone invents ice cream that doesn't drip. Ice cream that doesn't drip, can you believe it?"

He took in a breath, "Whole new world, here. We're billions of miles from Earth, but its modeled after what you know. That's what you lot are like. Makin' sense out of chaos."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Nathan listened, his mind running a million miles a minute as the Doctor spoke. He even offered a whispered 'president' after the word had been spoken. Nothing sounded familiar. None of this made sense, but then what had in his life lately? Not much.

What got his attention was the last bit of what the doctor had said. "We're not on Earth? Where is this? How am I breathing?" He asked worriedly, his hand going instinctively to his neck.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"This planet was uninhabited and mostly rock, but your scientists terraformed it, made it applicable for human life. Whole process is pretty complicated and terribly boring, but it made this place a new new Earth."

He nodded, then turned, shutting the TARDIS door behind them. "We should go up, I think."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"New new Earth? So this is the the... third. The third Earth." Nathan shook his head slightly, looking up again to the flying cars and people of all... kinds that he'd never seen the likes of before. "They won't hurt me? Us?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Oooooh, I don't think so. Plenty of humans walking around up there. This is your planet, after all. Crossbreeds and aliens and mutated humans and superhumans, all sorts. You'll fit right in."

He grinned madly, and led the way towards a hetreopad, which looked a bit like a glowing slab of sidewalk, a la Michael Jackson, but the moment the Doctor and Nathan stood on it, the glowing part of the concrete (not the concrete itself) began to rise up.

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Nathan instinctively grabbed the Doctor's shoulders as they began to rise. And after he realized he had, pulled away. "Sorry..." He said uncomfortably and then leaned over to look down at the shrinking ground. "This is insane."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
If Nathan grabbing his shoulders had offended or upset the Doctor in any way, he didn't show it. He still grinned madly, looking up at the lights.

"Isn't it brilliant? Whole universe out there, and you all get a little piece of it."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan stared in awe, looking around the area and taking it all in. As he did, his features softened slightly and a corner of his lips lifted. "So... humanity survives." He said quietly, barely containing the urge to call Peter and tell him that everything was going to be okay.

"It makes me feel kind of small." He said. "It actually feels good not to have the weight of... everything."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"More than that," the Doctor replied, almost proudly, "Humanity thrives."

[identity profile] vote4nathan.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
A smile ghosted over Nathan's lips. "My brother will be glad to hear this. He thinks the world is going to be destroyed by this... explosion. Soon actually."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor nodded, "Well, it'll be something to tell him about."

The time ripples, he knew, could've been clouding some sort of global or citywide destruction from this era, keeping even him from the knowledge. He'd have to talk to Peter, and Nathan, and this time-bender...later, though. This was supposed to be fun.
