Mercury. Not exactly the most entertaining of planets, but certainly one of the most peaceful. With the atmospheric generator setting up a heat and pressure field around where he sat outside the TARDIS, it was actually quite nice.

He had two white wicker chairs and a table set up outside the TARDIS, with a pot of tea and two cups and saucers out.

After all, he had a date arriving.

Well, not really a date.

Just Romana.

Still! No reason not to put a little effort out!

He may have a few good centuries over her age, but it never did stop her from wondering just how much a child he really could be. From pouting about forgetting his age to this it was enough for her to laugh if only a little.

"You cause them without even trying!" Which she was absolutely prepared to defend her said statement with a number of examples. The trip to Ribos alone was enough to satisfy her side of the debate, should it come to be.

Empty cup in hand she tilted it a fraction before setting aside, reaching for the teapot to pour herself a second.

"Should I ask where we would go? Or are you going to surprise me?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not!" He replied, indignantly. He tugged on his earlobe as she poured herself another cup of tea.

Where to go? Well, if they were going to go dancing, there were a lot of options, each one depended on how extravagant he wanted the experience to be.

"You'll see," he decided, showing off his near-perfected mysterious smile.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Replying with a simple, "Yes, you do," she set the teapot down after a moment and took up the cup. With a little matter-of-fact air to it, that only she seemed to be able to manage, she sipped.

Oh, she didn't.

She did!

He twitched his nose and leaned forward.

"Do not."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Over the cup she grinned.

She held the cup in her right hand, fingertips gripping the rim as she leaned forward too, folding her arms over her lap.

"Do too."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Now she was just being difficult! A smirk touched the edge of his lips, but he did his very best to keep it down.

"Do not."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
One could wonder just how she managed to remember these things.

Resting her chin in the palm of her hand as she drawled, "You walked right into the tachyon regeneration generator on Argolis and ended up strolling out as an old man when it malfunctioned."

"It was a malfunction! Hardly my fault!" the Doctor scoffed. "Besides, it all turned out all right in the end. And you! You took Princess Astra's form! I, at least, just let nature choose at random! You had to get all...vain!"

Not that he didn't base his seventh self a little bit on the twelfth king of Sararoria. Just a bit.

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, but still these things still happen even without you meaning to do so to begin with."

With a gentle swirl she twirled the contents of her drink just a bit before continuing seeing as it was her turn to defend herself.

"it was not a matter of being vain at all - I simply thought that it looked good on her and that it would be a comfortable regeneration to take up. And really now, it isn't that bad of a choice. Certainly you don't have any complaints about my appearance, now do you?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-03 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"See..." he pointed at her. "That is a question I can't possibly win with! If I say 'yes', then I've lost because I've lost my argument! If I say 'no', well, then you're going to be insulted and go back into your Presidential TARDIS and we won't be able to go on holiday together."

He made his best pout face.

It wasn't really that good. But he was trying!

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-03 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
The Lady President merely smiled when she drew back to lean back in her chair. "Or I could change the subject by simply pointing out the fact that even after all those years, pouting like that has not once done anything to help you in your favor in any argument."

One leg crossed over the other again and her cheek pressed against the back of her hand.

"If anything it just proves that you're still something of a child."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-03 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I am at least five hundred years older than you, Romana," the Doctor replied, tartly. "Hardly a child."

Physically, at least.

Though he did so love sparring with her like this. Even though she regularly beat him at their quarrels, it was wonderful to have someone to quarrel with. An intellectual equal. And, Romana, besides. He always remembered traveling with her as being some of the best times of his lives.

"Pouting looks good on me, at any rate."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-03 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"By a standard of years, perhaps. But behavior wise? That is a completely different comparison structure."

It was utterly refreshing out here. No signs of pompous leaders around, no constant interruptions from various world representatives demanding her time. It was all waiting for her back on Gallifrey but at least for now, for a little while, she was just another person enjoying the company of another.

With a laugh she looked up at the stars again. "It makes you look childish."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-03 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Which as you've said earlier is how I act, so I suppose it just shows that I try my best to look honest," he replied, grinning.

It felt like he won that. Though, really, he probably didn't. All the same.

He tilted his head to the side and studied his companion. "How long has it been since you've danced, Romana?"

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-03 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
The last time she had danced? That was something that took some thought.

"It's been so long," Romana answered softly, "That I seem to have forgotten entirely." The present was so content with distracting and drowning her that she could not reflect on the past.

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Far too long, then."

He hopped to his feet and offered her his hand.

"And I, Madame President, know precisely the right place."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Easing herself up from her seat she accepted his outstretched hand with a smile.

"And where, my dear Doctor, would that be?"

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor gave her a chastising look. "It's a surprise, Romana! Can't a surprise if I just tell you! But it'll be fun. Don't you worry about that."

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there was no helping her wanting to ask. An eyebrow arched to match the grin on her lips. "Then by all means, surprise me."

He pushed open the door to the TARDIS and motioned for her to enter first.

"We'll pick up your motor when we're done, whaddya say?"

He could only hope she'd say yes. Could he mentally beg her to say yes? No, then she might hear him and that would sound pathetic!

[identity profile] tastefulfashion.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Over her shoulder she peered back at her own TARDIS, appearing to look thoughtful in considering what he suggested.

Tapping her index finger to her cheek, "Well..."

A hand touching the door-frame she looked from her TARDIS to him. In her mind she could feel the connection to her, encouraging her to go along. "... let's go."

[identity profile] rude-not-ginger.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Those were, quite possibly, the best words the Doctor had heard in several lifetimes. A trip with a very very good friendandjustafriend, and dancing, besides!

There was still a nagging part of his mind that reminded him that Romana should be going back to Gallifrey to eventually die. And that taking her with him was only going to make sending her back harder.

Still. One trip. One trip wouldn't hurt.

"Allons-y!"
