The Doctor flipped a few final switches on the TARDIS console, adding the information he'd just recieved about Aislinn into the systems, should he ever run across another muse like her again. Well, he doubted it would be exactly like her, but...the same genus at least.

He turned, picking up the teacups that were left behind. Funny, he would've thought Rose would've been back by now. The sound of a familiar key in the lock made him look up. Speak of the devil...

"I didn't want to change what the original builder saw. Just restore it. I only got...Only a few rooms were finished."

Reinette stopped walking again, something in his tone causing her to still. She searched her vistor's features for several moments.

"I am sorry you were unable to complete work that was so obviously important to you."

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
He shrugged a little. "It's no matter. It was a long time ago."

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Reinette remained still, watching him.

"But it did matter to you?"

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Reinette tried to understand.

"But not anymore?"

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not mine anymore," he said quietly. "Most of what I once loved is nothing but dust now. The Abbey at least is in the hands of people who care about it."

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Reinette was intigued by his words, and she lead them over to a low bench, so that they could exchange words more easily. "You said most of what you once loved. What remains?"

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
He settled next to her after seeing that she was comfortable.

"My name. My words. A friend."

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"So few words," Reinette observed quietly. "And yet that sounds like so much."

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Does it?" He looked at her and his eyes were dark with regrets for a moment before he pushed them back.

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Reinette considered her own experiences.

"There are many who do not have that. There are many more who would not have answered me so quickly, or needed much more thought. You knew what mattered to you."

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Because there are so few things anymore. The whole world mattered at one point." He brushed his fingers down her cheek.

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Reinette did not pull away from his touch. In truth, she both admired, and respected boldness. She found herself even more curious about the man behind the movement.

"The entire world is quite a lot. Did it not get exhausting?"

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, always. But there was so much to care about. People. Causes. Lives torn asunder and countries in turmoil...." He let his fingers cup her cheek, thumb lightly stroking.

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Reinette choose to let the touch continue. That must be understood. She was so very rarely heedless, her every action most likely well considered.

"To care for so much, do you do so at a detriment to yourself?"

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, always." His smile was a touch bitter. "Or I did. Now that I'm not doing it anymore, I find other things to be a detriment."

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Reinette blinked at the sharpness of his tone.

"That seems a promising conversation," she observed. "You are a very blunt man, I think."

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Only when I choose to be. Most would say I obfuscate and hide behind layers of words with varying meanings the like of which it takes a skilled person to decipher." He smiled a little.

"Perhaps I only seem blunt."

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
"If you company only listens to your words perhaps, then yes. Perhaps you manage to hide some of yourself. What is it in the furture. Does no one give attention to to attituse, and tone. To emotion."

Reinette considered his features.

"It is my opinion that people never hide as much as they might think."

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Byron looked down at her eyes dark with a bit of confusion quickly hidden.

"Some pay attention. Most don't."

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
She was there in time to catch up his confusion with her own gaze, and Reinette studied him intently, perhaps daring him to take it completely away.

"That," Reinette said quietly. "Is indeed a shame."

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
He shrugged, cynical smile flitting over his lips.

"Perhaps. Or perhaps it is all that makes life bearable then."

[identity profile] ambitious-woman.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"How is life a state of diluted emotion? That is not..." Her own features set themselves, firm. For all the emotion, for all the loss, Reinette would not have her own feelings altered so. And she wore them, proudly. That no one quite knew what that were seeing? Well, that was for them to face.

[identity profile] the-corsair.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know..." He frowned. "I do not...I used to know what it meant to feel every thing. I seem to have forgotten."
