The Doctor flipped a few final switches on the TARDIS console, adding the information he'd just recieved about Aislinn into the systems, should he ever run across another muse like her again. Well, he doubted it would be exactly like her, but...the same genus at least.

He turned, picking up the teacups that were left behind. Funny, he would've thought Rose would've been back by now. The sound of a familiar key in the lock made him look up. Speak of the devil...

Reinette's eyes flared especially bright.

"Why," she offered. "The fact that we are not to be found of course."

"How very dull their lives would be without us," he half-drawled. "We almost owe it to them to provide something shocking for them to talk about."

Well, of all things he was direct, and Reinette could appreciate that trait.

"What could possibly shock such jaded eyes and ears?"

"Most of what I did," he said ruefully. "But this is your court...what do you think?"

That earned another intrigued arch of an eyebrow.

"Truthfully? That I think, a ability that I have long since given up on finding many here to pocess. And in that, I think, I am mostly done with them."

He gave her a half smile. "Fools the lot of them."

Laughter teased at the corner of her mouth.

"Precisely."

He couldn't help himself. He took a moment to trace that laugh.

"'Beauty is power; a smile is its sword.'" It was just a murmur, and not his. Before her time even, some fifty years ago,and an Englishman at that, but it seemed fitting.

"John Ray," Reinette stopped walking again, openly pleased. "Exactly so."

He grinned. "Very good."

Reinette laughed again, nothing false in the sound. Ahead her eyes caught the profile of several courtiers.

"Little do they know," she smiled. "That those times in which my absence is noted? I am often keeping the company of books, and not Kings."

"What books do you find that bring you the most delight?" He was genuinely curious, eyes lighting up with interest.

"I am enthralled by literature of all kinds. Plays, and poetry." Reinette considered the question more. "And architecture. There is much to be said within the right wall, I believe."

"I have an Abbey. Or I used to. Will..." The time issue was slightly disorientating. He smiled ruefully. "I spent a great time restoring it as best I could."

"Your home," Reinette concluded, smiling. "Do you believe, as some, that withing any given space there is only one true form, waiting to be revealed? Or do you think more freely?"

He considered her words for a long while, taking it seriously. "I think that any one thing has countless possibilities. The true shape lies within the artist."

Reinette nodded, accepting his answer. In truth, she had been brought up to think much more rigidly. But some of the most beautiful structures she had ever seen came from the minds of a dozen different builders. "And with your home. Was it your vision, or the actitect's that took shape?"

"I didn't want to change what the original builder saw. Just restore it. I only got...Only a few rooms were finished."

Reinette stopped walking again, something in his tone causing her to still. She searched her vistor's features for several moments.

"I am sorry you were unable to complete work that was so obviously important to you."

He shrugged a little. "It's no matter. It was a long time ago."

Reinette remained still, watching him.

"But it did matter to you?"

"At one point, yes..."

Reinette tried to understand.

"But not anymore?"

"It's not mine anymore," he said quietly. "Most of what I once loved is nothing but dust now. The Abbey at least is in the hands of people who care about it."

Reinette was intigued by his words, and she lead them over to a low bench, so that they could exchange words more easily. "You said most of what you once loved. What remains?"
